About this project

UPDATE: This Kickstarter project ends on October 1, 2010

For information about getting started with Modkit, please visit our getting started page.

If you have already pledged and have any questions, you can send us a message at the bottom right of this page.

Modkit is a new kind of graphical programming environment that makes programming things in the physical world as easy as dragging and dropping little virtual code blocks in a web browser.. Heavily inspired by the Scratch programming environment (from MIT Media Lab's Lifelong Kindergarten Group), Modkit enables anyone including kids, artists and inventors to build with electronic kits and components including motors, sensors, lights, sound and the popular Arduino and Arduino compatible development boards...

So far, Modkit's development has been funded by its founders.. By backing Modkit on Kickstarter, you can help get this fabulous technology into more people's hands quicker (starting with yours!) No pledge is too small but pledges of $15 or more will get you an invite to join our alpha testing group to start using the Modkit environment immediately.. We have some other cool rewards, including a special edition Modkit Crimp Card which makes hooking up components as easy as the Modkit editor makes programming.. Don't worry, if you don't have the funds you can really help us by spreading the word and linking to this Kickstarter page on your blog, email list, or website.. All pledges will be used to directly support Modkit development and to manufacture the first rounds of our Modkit Crimp Cards.. We're really excited!

To find out more information about Modkit or about what we're up to, don't hesitate to send us a message on kickstarter or you can visit our blog.

Modkit is Ed Baafi and Collin Reisdorf..

Ed Baafi started Modkit to build tools that enable ordinary people (kids, college students, artists, inventors, etc) to design, build, and program interactive projects without needing an engineering or computer science background just to get started.. Modkit is the result of thoughts, ideas, and insights gained through Ed's work organizing the Boston Fab Lab and the Learn 2 Teach, Teach 2 Learn youth technology program. After designer Collin Reisdorf joined the team, Modkit now has a polished look and has been in use by a growing alpha testing group for the past seven or eight months..
