We're on our way to Detroit!

Update #24 · Jul 10, 2012 · 4 comments

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth; I spent the entire month of June finalizing the outline for THE UNSTEADY EARTH. But now July is here, and it's time to get cracking. I have placed orders for most of the swag, including the Tesla Industries pin. Here's the proof graphic, isn't it nifty?

I also purchased my block of ISBNs (Jeez, is Bowker a total scam or WHAT?) which means that the trade paperback has an ISBN of its very own! 978-1-938860-00-3! Whee! And having an ISBN, I was able to get a LCCN—that is, a Library of Congress Control number. I’m sure none of these things are particularly exciting for y’all, but they’re exciting for me.

By the end of this month the book should have moved to the copyeditor, and Uncorrected Advance Copies should have gone out to potential blurbers & review outlets. Everything is still on track for a formal release date of October 31, 2012 (with the book arriving to backers at least two weeks before that) but keep your fingers crossed.

The really big news is that Nora and I are leaving for our research trip to Detroit THIS FRIDAY. It's a Friday the 13th, and there's a nice kind of narrative symmetry to that, as I launched the Kickstarter on a Friday the 13th as well. Both she and I will be photoblogging the trip, so if you're interested in following along, watch my blog at www.demimonde.com, which also mirrors to my Facebook & Twitter accounts. We'll be in Detroit through Thursday, and then we're heading to NYC for the weekend for some additional research (and to take in some theah-tah.)

Anyway, that's all the news that's fit to update! Hope you're all having a great summer so far.

I must say, as someone who works in the book industry (I work for a wholesaler/distributor in Canada, and have worked in both bookstores and libraries before), I find the news of ISBN and LCCN to be *most* exciting! (And I will admit I'm hoping my work gets one of the ARCs in, so I can get co-workers to read it!)
