About this project
I create unique jewelry that hearkens to Old World designs, getting inspiration from such places as Scotland, the Berber Tuareg tribe, Japan, the Middle East, India and beyond, combining it with a dark sensibility.
I have recently launched my own jewelry line and am aiming to raise enough funds for necessary equipment and money to develop more products. Currently I have three designs in sterling silver: cufflinks, a bracelet, and a necklace, which has a couple variations. I also have recently designed several necklaces in pewter and brass. I would also like to be able to have specialty stores carry my line but I have been told that I need at least ten items for a shelf and a lower price point.
I own a flex shaft, which is similar to a super duty dremel tool. I have enough files, burs, drills and other smaller tools to do some clean up work and finishing but I am unable to create new products in silver. If I have a torch, I could start making more pieces with the jewelry I have already cast. However I will continue to have my casting done by a professional due to the incredibly high costs required in having and maintaining a full casting studio.
Below is a break down of the funds:
-meco midget torch kit $530
-a basic work bench ranges from $350-500. Having the right height and working surface is really important for maintaining proper posture and full ranged efficiency.
-a mini wax injector ranges from $150-300. I have found that casting my highly detailed skulls is difficult for even a high end jewelry caster. If I can pull my own waxes, clean up the wax positives myself, and then send it for casting, the end product is much better.
-the rest of the funds I will use to make more products, buy more materials and findings, and simultaneously developing my pewter line so that I can offer a more affordable line.
-5% Kickstarter fee will take $125
-Amazon takes about 5% as well $125

My interest in bones and anachronistic aesthetic stems from my undergraduate and graduate sculptural studies as well as my long standing involvement in Middle Eastern dancing. During my schooling I explored ideas of human fragility, the self imagined through the body and have referenced seminal art works from centuries past. My passion for fashion and crafts conceptually collided with fine arts during my academic undergraduate degree and part time job at the Society of Arts and Crafts. The long standing battle between ‘fine arts’ and ‘crafts’ was forever blurred.
In the last year of graduate school I apprenticed with Deana Fukatsu, of OctopusMe jewelry. It was really exciting to see such a passionate artist making something so unique that I was determined to work for her. Deana has since become a great friend and mentor. Now I am back home, after spending a good year working as the Creative Director for Rocket World where I launched, created and managed their first sterling silver jewelry line amongst many other hats I wore. While working for Deana, she encouraged me to start my own jewelry line and I haven’t looked back since.
