For the Kickstarter community I will create an almost life sized new work entitled “Nativity” to raise funds for a new online presence.
I am an established Artist, a Teacher, and a Mom. My first love, Icons have always been the core of my collection. They are contemplative images of prayer, of family and of hope. I was first recognized by US Art magazine as one of the Top 25 emerging artists in 2000. Over the past 15 years my paintings have evolved to incorporate my surroundings: farm animals, wildlife, landscapes, local imagery and my family heritage. Hints of the Pacific Northwest appear throughout my art.
I want share with the Kickstarter community my love of painting but I have a mental roadblock. I believe that art should be experienced in its native format. The experience of art is changed by its surroundings. I don't understand how pictures on a screen can be a proxy for a canvas on a wall. But I'm open to new ideas and I trust that sharing an image of my creations will help to convey the passion I have for my art. Your feedback and support will help me to understand how I can embrace technology to share my art with the world.
For the season of Advent, I will create for the Kickstarter community an exclusive new work entitled “Nativity Icon”. This new work will result in a 48”x48” foot acrylic painting on canvas of the Nativity. I will share with my backers the process I use to envision, design and paint a new Icon.
All levels of support are appreciated and there are online and giclee reproductions of my paintings at several pledge levels so that everyone can participate. All Kickstarter backers will receive a Nativity greeting card via email and my deepest gratitude! I will also create custom Icons based on your two favorite colors exclusively for my Kickstarter backers.
I have an established career distributing my works to local galleries throughout the Pacific Northwest. I sell my art from my home studio, at art festivals, and have exhibitions at multiple public gathering spots. I also host art parties out of my home studio/gallery. I also teach classes to students to help give back to my community with those who share my passion for art. My project will help to expand my service to those in my community.

I've designed the project to include pledge rewards most of which I have executed in the past. I are trying to determine if exposure to the process of painting to a broader community online will generate interest in my art. With your feedback and support I know this will be a success.

A giclee is a fine art professional digital reproduction which starts with a high resolution digital scan and then uses a twelve-color, wide format inkjet printer to accurately reproduce the original colors. Prints are on archival paper or treated canvas to ensure a long life. An enhanced reproduction means the artist embellishes strokes of color to make each print a one-of-kind creation providing the collector with a reasonably priced alternative to an original.

As a first step towards embracing social media, Kickstarter seemed to be the best community to reach out to help extend my online presence. I've always been a huge believer in reaching out to my supporters via art shows and gallery exhibitions. Kickstarter is a way to reach a broader group of backers who share my passion for art. It's been a fun experience though it does take a lot of time to manage!

The project goal is to provide resources to enable me to extend my online presence. The pledge goal was calculated based off the minimum level of participation based on a conservative estimate of one backer for each of the originals and a handful of backers for each of the reproductions. Each pledge level was developed based on the cost to produce the reward.
1) 50% of the proceeds will go to consulting fees to cover an apprentice and a web developer to update my online presence
2) 40% will go to production expenses to develop, produce and ship the rewards
3) 10% of the proceeds goes to operational costs to cover Kickstarter & Amazon fees
My project goal is to embrace social media however I'm the first to admit that technology intimidates me. Plus like all single Moms I have no extra time to add to my day. I will use a portion of the proceeds to hire a techy artist apprentice to help me learn how to incorporate social media as a way to directly engage with my supporters. I don't have time to be at an increasing number of events and manage my online presence. Hiring an apprentice who is a digital native will help to guide me through this new world.
