MEET THE CREATORS
Ben and John are seasoned theater professionals with impressive track records…
BEN TARVER (Librettist, Co-Lyricist) has worked as a producer, director, playwright, stage manager, and general manager. His directing credits in New York include "Cicero" by Upton Sinclair and "The David Show," A. R. Gurney’s first New York production. He produced, Off Broadway, the first professional production of Calderon’s "Life Is a Dream" (La Vida es Sueno), which was also the first dual-language theater event in New York’s history. His gothic comedy, "The Murder of Auguste Dupin," played to sold-out houses across Canada, and then ran in repertory for months at one of Britain’s major resident theatres.
JOHN CLIFTON (Composer, Co-Lyricist) wrote the score for "We the People," which was performed on the steps of the U.S. Capitol for the Bicentennial of the Constitution. His songs and orchestrations were heard on Broadway in "The Madwoman of Central Park West," starring Phyllis Newman. "Mama" (music and lyrics; starring Celeste Holm) was presented by the Studio Arena (Buffalo) and "Starshine," a Civil War romance (music and lyrics) was seen at Theatre by The Sea (Portsmouth, New Hampshire). John is currently working on "Two Eagles," a musical romance set in modern Jerusalem.
Right after I posted a thought occurred to me. How about upping your own pledge in honor of a friend or family member as a holiday gift? Not sure if KickStarter/Amazon will let you pledge as a gift -but it's worth a try. : )
I see six of my friends have already signed on as backers -If everyone sends out emails to their theatre-loving friends we can get this project funded before the deadline!
I’ve been passionate about musical theater since my parents took me to see "My Fair Lady" on Broadway on my 13th birthday, half a century ago.
"Man with a Load of Mischief" is one of my all-time favorite musicals. I saw the original Off-Broadway production and was captivated.
"Mischief" is a tale filled with romance and mystery and intrigue. The songs are melodic, with elegant and witty lyrics. Moreover, the libretto is outstanding, far superior to that of most musicals. As the intricate plot unfolds, several unexpected twists occur, surprising and delighting audiences.
If you haven’t already done so, please watch the video and listen to the song sampler. Then consider making a donation, especially at a level that will get you a major reward. I’m proud to
have been the first to contribute.
If you’re a theater buff, you know that Broadway is now populated with musicals based on old movies, rock-and-roll tunes, and flying superheroes. Isn’t it time to bring back a charming, sophisticated, melodic, old-fashioned show? Join us and be part of musical-theater history!
Disclaimer: I’m a friend of the composer but I have no financial interest in the project.
