70s Fashion Show

Update #3 · Sep 6, 2011 · comment

Holy Hot Pants and Polyester!  Over the weekend I stopped in to see The Donkey Show and man, we're in for some gyrating from this group of Fluff Fest performers.

To get everyone in the audience for this year's event in the groove we're hosting a pre-Fluff party at Great Eastern Trading Company in Central Square on Friday, September 16.  (Complete details here.)

For those who haven't visited the store, it is absolutely chock-a-block with vintage items from every era.  A great selection wide collared shirts, funky men's suits, Hawaiian shirts, sequined tube tops.  Since our foremothers and forefathers were skinnier than today, the store also stocks up on inspired costumes, with some awesome ones that look straight of off the backs of Abba.

Lots happening here in preparation for the festival.

Last week hard working graphic designer Andrew Emerson got all our big printing jobs in -- Flagraphics is making up the 16 streetpoles banners; Hemlock Ink has our order for 1300 t-shirts (!); Migrant Winds is laboring over the silkscreen posters (picking them up tomorrow); the presses are warming up to run off the posters and postcards.  With a burst of inspiration (or maybe it was just a shopping craze) I ordered die cut magnets with that What the Fluff jar we used for one of our most popular t-shirt designs -- I think everyone's gonna love them.  Volunteer and VIP "F" pins just arrived.  Festival is feeling very real !

Last week vendor Captain Naomi Slagowski met with me to go over the layout in the Square -- so much fun stuff!

Jamie Waltz joined me here at the office to help me handle all the killion details left to do. She's going to be my right hand gal through until the last of the Fluff is licked away.  We littered a wall with post-it notes of the to-do list.  She cranked a whole slew of them off handily -- prizes ordered, vendors recruited.

On Saturday at the Farmers Market, I was too tempted and donned the new Cindy Brady wig (blonde curls for the pig tails) to join Archibald Query (aka Mike Katz) to reach out market customers. We were able to recruit 30 volunteers to help at the festival -- a good dent on the 200 sets of hands we need to make all the shenanigans run smoothly.

Over the weekend I heard from Susan Olsen and her manager Larry.  Her artwork should arrive today at Bloc 11 for installation alongside pieces by local artists Maris Wicks, Liz Prince, Joe Quinones and Suzanne Lubeck.  Can't wait to see it on the walls!  Museum of Bad Art Show isn't expected to go up at Sherman Cafe until end of next week.

All for now.  Yours in Fluff!

Mimi
