About this project

Background:

Chapel: The Series is the new web series by Rob Matsushita (Claymore Pictures) and Emily Mills, featuring collaboration with some of the finest acting and technical talents in Wisconsin.

After creating the character of Chapel for a Wis-Kino 48-hour film challenge, Rob and Emily went on to make a total of three shorts centered around the unlucky drug dealer (episodes C, D, and E)--and Emily wrote a book detailing Chapel's backstory--before deciding to turn it all into a web series.

The proper series had its grand kick-off in January 2010 and the first season (episodes A, B, and F through J) wrapped at the end of the year - running on zero budget. Now it's time to start shooting the six episodes of the second season, and the hope is to have a little bit of cash on hand to make it happen.

The story:

Chapel is a drug dealer. Not a very lucky one. Mostly she'd just like to make it through the day without having to borrow someone's gun...

A genre-bending tale of hard knocks, desperate acts, absurd situations, and real depth, Chapel promises to be a series that will make you laugh, cringe, fist-pump, cheer, and maybe even shed a single tear.

Claymore Pictures is an independent film production company out of Madison, WI. The brainchild and longtime project of Rob Matsushita, Claymore strives to create innovative, boundary-pushing, and professional film work that is both entertaining and original.

Writer and director Rob Matsushita has made a name for himself as both a prolific playwright and filmmaker. He's had plays performed in Madison at the Bartell Theater, Broom Street, and by companies in Chicago and New York City. Matsushita has also lent his writing and acting talents to the "Chad Vader" web series with Blame Society Productions, and other film credits include "Massacre: The Musical" and the "Wasted Youth" double feature alongside director Will Gartside.

Actor and author Emily Mills literally wrote the book on "Chapel" when she knocked out the main character's back story for a short novel in 2009 ("The Fix Up"). Emily has been collaborating with Rob for several years now, appearing in many of his plays and short films and now as Chapel. Emily is also a freelance writer, musician, photographer, and is generally over-committed. She has appeared in countless stage productions and short films.
