About this project
STORY
The Pencil Guy is a story about a guy who for 25 years has worked at a wood pencil factory. This short will explore how he became the number one wood pencil assembler, his passion for wood pencils, and his fear of the mechanical pencil. The film will be a10 minute short that is completely hand made and brought to life through stop motion animation.
PROCESS
I am creating all new puppets for the film. The Pencil Guy will be redesigned but still have a similar look to the early images and animation in the video. The entire project will take around 7 to 8 months to complete. About half the time will be spent building the sets, props, and puppets. While the rest of the time will be shooting, sound recording, and post work.
SUPPLIES
What is the money going towards? Most of the money will be going towards all the supplies needed to create the Pencil Guys world like silicones, resins, wire, wood, acrylic paints, just to name a few. The money will cover the cost of studio space and equipment like a Canon 60D, CS5 Production Premium, lighting equipment, and power tools! I am shooting the movie digitally, in order to get the film into some festivals I will have to transfer The Pencil Guy to different formats like 35mm film. The money will cover those costs as well.
INFO
You can follow the progress of the Pencil Guy on his Facebook page. I will be updating his page with new stuff as the project progresses. Everything from early drawings, animation tests, and the newly designed puppets and sets will be there. The Pencil Guy himself is going become a bit more detailed than the early images shown. You can see a bit about me and my past work on my website at milkmanmelvin.com.
