What is Jesse & Jesse?
Jesse and Jesse is a show about life, friendship, love, loss, and working at a lackluster job that you hate, but you can't really do anything else because this economy is terrible and no one wants to hire someone with a good education and….
Sorry.
As I was saying, Jesse and Jesse is a comedy of errors built upon a throne of lies…no wait.
Ok, so let's try this again.
Jesse and Jesse is the story of two strangers with the same name who, over the course of many adventures, become decent friends and amicable co-workers. It involves a variety of ridiculous main and ancillary characters, as well as outlandish storylines and concepts. In fact, here's the latest episode:
Where's my money going?
The
whole point of this Kickstarter is to allow us film on our own schedule and create the show indefinitely. We wish to purchase our own equipment and use it to make the show how we want, when we want.
Renting equipment is costly and gives us a limited time to work. Buying the equipment means that we can get together when we want and work whatever outrageous hours we please.
We've already put a great deal of money into the show thus far to get it where it is (renting equipment, computer for editing, etc), but, we'd like to outright own the equipment so that we can continue to make the show well after the Kickstarter has ended.
A 5D, some lenses, recording equipment, some lights. All of this stuff adds up pretty quick (believe me!).
Not only will we be able to make Jesse and Jesse, but we'd be able to work on additional side projects and continue to hone our filmmaking abilities. Of course, not
all of the money will be going towards equipment and crew. We’d like to get
some props, some costumes, be able to get everyone to the shoot, and
just not worry how we’re going to pay for it later.
So
what does this mean for any money over the $8000 requested? More equipment, more locations, better quality of equipment, all that fun stuff.
We love making things in general. We want to use Jesse and Jesse to springboard into a larger network of actors, crew, and like-minded folks. We’d love to do this for a living and
we hope that our show reaches the right people. So please, if you like
the show, spread the word.
Who are Jesse and Jesse?(Or, The Story So Far…)
Jesse is
an ivy-league educated journalist stuck writing fluff pieces for a
third-rate newspaper in a nowheresville town. He's overworked,
underpaid, and totally overqualified. His dreams of success, as well as
his self-esteem and pride, are slowly being chipped away by an
antagonistic boss, unrequited love, and a crazy landlord.
When
threatened with unemployment and then eviction on the same day, Jesse
jumps on the internet to find a roommate. Unlike our hero, this new guy,
also named Jesse, is a lazy, laid-back slacker, self-proclaimed guitar
god, and all around fun dude. He’s in it to win it and wants to rage.
After
a brief courtship, Jesse & Jesse become official friends and
coworkers. With a second Jesse now in tow, the Editor tasks the Jesses
with creating sensational stories to build buzz and popularity for the
flagging newspaper. At each turn Jesse & Jesse run into seemingly
normal situations with bizarre circumstances and outcomes, yet, miss the
real story every time.
As
the show progresses, the Jesses learn more about each other and their
somewhat inconvenient situation, all the while trying to dodge being
fired, arrested, evicted, murdered, violated, abused, kidnapped, and
more!
Who else will I see?
Larry Sturd III, the Editor
Larry
Sturd, the son of a wealthy business magnate inherits the Daily Times
Tribune Gazette prior to the first episode. He’s idiotic, rude,
arrogant, sleazy, and has no idea how to run a successful business, let
alone anything related to publishing. In his capacity as Editor he
continues to antagonize the Jesses by forcing them to lie, cheat, and
steal their way into the hearts and minds of readers everywhere. And to
make things worse, he’s also their superior and peer. He’s not above
making up a story or twisting it to sound better, all in the name of
garnering popularity and readership. However, deep down, he just wants
to be liked and loved.
Olivia
Olivia
is the office secretary. Not much is known about Olivia’s past or her
present. She’s an enigma full of surprises. However, Jesse has been in
love with her from day one but can never seal the deal.
Dan is the landlord of the house that Jesse and Jesse rent. He also owns a majority of property in town, though no one is sure exactly how. He rarely has time to get dressed or be sober. He leads a life of luxury and fulfillment by continually leasing things and fluctuating housing rates on his tenants....and many many more characters to come!
Who would make this and why?
Jesse and Jesse was written and created by friends Mike Mizov, Shawn
Erickson, and Jesse Griffith. They created a little production company called Brain
Salad Productions to release under.
As lifelong students of comedy, Mike and Shawn have always been developing ideas for television and film, and with several projects already under their respective belts, they set out to create a new web series. That's when they brought in Jesse Griffith and the seed for Jesse and Jesse was planted. What resulted was a web series based on the classic sitcom format for a new generation of viewers.
Each episode is approximately 15 to 20 minutes long including an original written and performed theme song. The show is generally dialogue-based humor, satire, with witty rapport, and bits of slapstick thrown in for good measure. Dark overtones and a no-rules attitude abound. Each episode features a self-contained story that contributes to a larger season-long arc, as well as punctuating a series of mini-arcs throughout the course of the show. Side characters will constantly be introduced and make appearances throughout the course of the show, and have their own mini-arcs to contend with.
