Help Michael Ririe raise money to be able to publish his first book, and help raise awareness for children with disabilities!
Hi, my name is Michael Ririe, a photographer based in Utah. Over the past year, I have been photographing at a non-profit physical therapy center called Now I Can. Most of these patients are children who were born with disabilities like cerebral palsy. They come to Now I Can to receive specialized therapy that helps them become more self reliant. The cost for this type of therapy, even from a non-profit, is burdensome for many of the families. Those who cannot immediately afford the therapy rely on grants funded by people’s donations.
I saw the need and wanted to help raise awareness for this group. My objective with this photographic documentary is to publish my first book. I hope to also benefit others by informing viewers that this therapy foundation exists and to inform potential donors of the need for their financial assistance.
To make all this possible, I have come to the powerful community of Kickstarter. I have completed the layout and design of the book, and have received estimates from a number of publishing companies. The company I have chosen has quoted the price of $16,000 for 500 hardbound books printed in high-quality duotone. The book includes photographs of 18 patients, plus individualized stories written by the parents of eight children. I believe that with the help of Kickstarter, we will raise the funds necessary to publish this book, which in turn will allow me my first major publication and raise awareness for the Now I Can Foundation.Throughout the month of February 2012 I will hold an exhibition of the photographs of these determined children at Gallery 101 in Orem, Utah. There I will present the book at the opening reception for all to enjoy and purchase, which will be held February 10, 2012. With this book in the homes of the community, nation, and even world, it will offer a lasting reminder for people to make a difference.
I need your financial help to make this book a reality. I have put together a wonderful set of rewards for contributors. Though book publishing is expensive, and I need to raise $16,000 to make this happen, any amount you can donate will not go unnoticed.
