Update #4: Shimoni, Kenya
Hello all! I just wanted to let you know that I am home after having an amazing trip to Shimoni, Kenya. I truly cannot thank you all enough for your support. I definitely fell in love with the children I taught, and with the entire village of Shimoni.
I know that I owe many of you letters and postcards, but I had overlooked a few small details about the place I would be staying. I was literally in a "village" which was 3 hours from the closest town. So they don't exactly have A) postcards or B) a post office. :) Oops!
However, I am still going to write letters, send pictures, etc. They will just be sent from the States instead.
Thank you all again for making this possible. I am extremely grateful for each one of you. You can check my blog for some of my experiences, and I'll be writing more blogs in the next few days. http://hipmombrarian.wordpress.com
Lots of love,
Megan
Update #3: Almost over
Hello friends,
I know that it's been so long since most of you have pledged your support to Worlds Apart, and I just wanted to assure you that it's almost over. There are three more days until my project ends. I was fortunate enough, because of all of you, to surpass my goal of $2,000 so cards should be charged this week. I never dreamed it would happen as fast as it did!
Just to keep you updated on other news related to this project, I am so happy to announce that some close friends have started planning a fundraiser to further the momentum that was started with my Kickstarter page. The goal is to actually raise more money so I can make a donation to the community school I'll be teaching in.
As always, I'm so in awe of this wonderful, giving, compassionate community that I'm surrounded by. Thank you all so much for all that you do.
In solidarity,
Megan
Update #2: Funded
With the gracious help of all of you, Worlds Apart is now funded!
I am floored by your kindness, some of you who I've never even met before.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm going to Africa!!!!!!

Update #1: Sincere Thanks
Thank you all so much for your generous contributions to Worlds Apart. I couldn't do this without you. So far I have been able to raise over $800 in just a few days, and I am confident that I can raise the rest before the deadline.
If you haven't had a chance yet, kickstarter makes if very easy to share Worlds Apart. Whether it's through Twitter, Facebook, your blog, or any other site. If you know of anyone who might be interested in contributing, I truly appreciate you helping to spread the word. Every dollar helps!
Thank you again.

It's the librarian in me that just can't resist.... I want to bring children books with me on my trip to use in the community school. You will get to pick one of the books that I bring with me. The books will be left in the school for the children, so it's a gift from you to them. And of course you will also have my deepest respect.

I am an activist at heart, a librarian in training, and a soon to be graduate student. This fall I will start my masters in Library Information and Science through the University of North Texas. I live in Boise Idaho with my two wild children who keep me constantly busy but entertained.
Striving to be a better member of my community has always been important to me, and I have been fortunate enough to be recognized for my efforts on several occasions. This year I was selected as one of the Idaho Business Review's Women of the Year. Previous honors include being appointed to the 2010 Boise Public Library Innovation Table, selected as a 2007 Idaho Woman Making History, inducted into the 2007 Founders Leadership Society, and awarded the 2006 Hewlett- Packard Human Rights Award for Idaho.
I hope that this experience will be the beginning of international volunteer commitment.
