Our most exciting update yet: First View at the New Board

Update #15 · May 23, 2011 · 11 comments

Dear Backers!

Today I am going to share with you the long awaited first view at the new board design. The picture below gives a first impression.

But this is very much still work in progress. The photo still uses components from the Beta Edition e.g. the wooden rectangular product chips. The round red/gree/blue circles with letter in the middle are place holders for what used to be cylinders.

One change that will happen is to remove the reserved areas in the "pockets" for not-yet-used Nerds, Suits, and Money. Having the "hiring pool" on the board turned out to not be such a great idea. They just go outside the board, like in the picture.

Personally, I love the coffee stains, but maybe you like your board pristine, or you want to make your own stains? Please comment on what you like and don't like on the board.

The Story of Startup Fever Told in 8 Boards

Update #14 · May 16, 2011 · 1 comment

Today I am sharing a quick look behind the scenes of developing a board game like Startup Fever. Visually, the change in graphics for the board over time is the most obvious, but the fine details document a lot of the trial and error that went into developing Startup Fever. I still remember when I raided the Lego box...

General Status Update

Update #13 · May 13, 2011 · comment

Folks

I want to give a general status update on what's going on with the project. We are still moving full speed ahead.

The negotiation with the manufacturer for Retail are almost done, there are just some minor issues that need to be resolved. I'll post more hopefully next week, when we sign a contract.  I did a little poll on two options for the box for the Beta Edition with the backers who qualify, and the results were split 50/50, so I am looking into accommodating both preferences. More on this later.

I also sent a few boxes to a few reviewers, and I hope reviews are coming out soon, including at least one video review.

This week I have spent some time on the Web site for the game, and I believe it's now a lot cleaner than it used to be. Check it out at StartupFeverGame.com. It doesn't have much more information than what you guys already know, but Kickstarter will come to an end, and we need a place to put content in the long run.

Gary is almost done with his video, I cant' wait to see and share it with everybody.

Have a great week-end

Update on Beta Edition Box

Update #12 · May 11, 2011 · 1 comment

Attached a few pictures of the new Beta Edition Box. This box has additional enforcement inside so it's stronger. I think it's also prettier, with the extra black rectangles the enforcement creates on the outside.

International Shipping Cost and New Backer Level

Update #11 · May 9, 2011 · comment

I have to confess that I have not invested enough time into determining international shipping cost when I started the campaign. It was very busy... Not surprisingly, I have received a lot of feedback from buyers outside the US. This week-end, I went back to the drawing board (or rather, my Web browser). After trying to parse usps.com and switching from Priority Mail to First Class Mail, we are now lowering the cost for international shipping to $20. Canada will now get free shipping.

We are also introducing a new Quad-Nerd level at $200. You get four games with extensions and free shipping world-wide. It’s basically the perfect group buy for say someone in Brazil. Find three others to chime in, and each one of you gets the game with extensions for $50. The Double-Nerd is also quite attractive for buyers outside US/CA, as shipping cost per game are only $10.

Be aware that this pricing is likely to end after the Kickstarter fundraising period is over as other people will take over fulfilment.

Below are the new minimum pledging levels.
