An artist finds a strange, talking hole in the wall. Will it make his wildest dreams come true...or become his worst nightmare?
New Exclusive Perk
As we move towards the final funding push, we are offering a brand spanking new exclusive perk. Christina Kortum, the special make-up effects artist for Deep Dark, has designed some beautiful fingers for the film and we want you to own one. Anne Sorce, who plays Devorah in the film, would prefer to get them back but alas, we'd prefer you to add them to your own collection of morbid goodies. So grab one while you can, there's only eight available. They'll arrive at your door encased in a shadowbox accompanied with a screengrab of the dismembered digits from the film.
12 behind-the-scenes videos from the Deep Dark shoot are now available to anyone who contributes at the $10 level or more. (Movie is shooting while KickStarter campaign is live. All monies contributed will be used for completion funds including editing, sound design, and visual effects.) Be a part of the process... while it's shooting!
Deep Dark is about an artist finding his muse and the strange, sometimes violent relationship that develops between them. It's the story of a failed sculptor who discovers a talking hole in the wall. The hole has the power to fulfill his wildest dreams. Or, it might just become his worst nightmare. Deep Dark is a high-concept horror/dark-comedy, like Being John Malkovich, only with more blood.
Have a look at our other perks to the right. Each one is named from a line of dialog from the film. With a contribution of just $10 or more you instantly gain access to all behind-the-scenes videos, production stills and storyboards. During the entire term of the campaign we'll send you daily Behind the Scenes documentary videos including interviews with the director, actors, and crew members. We'll be making shout outs from the set to those who donate. Become a part of the Deep Dark team and get EXCLUSIVE ACCESS to the entire shooting process of the film from day one (June 17th) to the very last take. We're so excited to share the process with team members involved through Kickstarter!
Hermann is a talentless sculptor with dreams of becoming a great artist. When he's not thinking about his art he is thinking about Devora: a beautiful, successful gallerist who is known for discovering new talent. Upon finally meeting her Hermann is given an ultimatum: make a groundbreaking piece of art or quit forever.
Two weeks later with no art to show, Hermann is at the end of his rope. Just before giving up he discovers something extraordinary: a talking hole in the wall. When the hole helps him create something exquisite, his career suddenly takes off and passions spark between him and Devora. Sensing abandonment, The Hole demands more from Hermann. Much more.
As for what happens next...you'll just have to wait and find out. We assure that you've never seen anything quite like this before.

"Deep Dark is an indie film with an original story. It's not a sequel. It's not a reboot and it's not a foreign film remade in the US. It's not based on a toy, comic book or popular children's fiction series. A film like this could only be made independently. So if you like original stories, I ask you to support original independent film. How do you do that? By taking a chance on that film you haven't heard much about. If you see a good indie film, tell a friend about it. If you see an interesting movie idea on Kickstarter, throw a couple of bucks into that filmmaker's hat. If that film happens to be Deep Dark, wonderful. If that's another indie film, that's great too. Then you can proudly say that you support original film. You're making a difference and becoming a part of a team."
-- Writer/Director Michael Medaglia
Where does your money go?
When you pitch in on Deep Dark it'll help the film in so many ways. From the digital effects during post-production, to the sound mixing and color correction. You'll be helping us out with a location shoot in Los Angeles that will be doubling as Fiji. Yep, you read that right... Fiji! Oh, and the blood... I almost forgot the blood. One scene in particular will require copious amounts of fake blood and background talent, so a portion of the proceeds will help this sequence reach its full potential, as well as assisting us with the laundry bill.
Why should you contribute?
We've gone through all traditional funding routes and have 80% of our overall budget. Now we need your support to push us off of the script page and onto screens worldwide. This is your chance to be a part of the process to get a movie made for the whole world to watch.
For $10 or more you can watch daily behind the scenes documentaries of our shoot in-progress! Check the rewards on the right side of this page to find out what cool perks we're offering. The making of this movie is going to be a fun roller coaster and we want you along for the ride!
How else can you help?
Help spread the word! Get on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram and let people know about Deep Dark and this Kickstarter campaign! Follow and share us on those sites and stay up to date with even more exclusives via social media.
People often ask why every film coming out of the US has to be a remake of another film? Or a reboot? Or a sequel? The truth is: that's what studios know will sell. They make these films because people pay to see them.
...but Deep Dark is different. This movie is being made for the viewers on the fringe. The ones that don’t necessarily like their content safe. The viewer that used to watch movies late at night on HBO or Cinemax, and enjoyed the sense of excitement of truly original films where anything could happen at any moment.
By contributing to this film and becoming a part of the team, you will be saying to the studios, as well as the film community at large, that there IS a place for original content like this... for viewers like you. We are excited to have you along for the ride! So c'mon... what are you waiting for?
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Film-making is both risky and challenging, from pre-production on down the line. The specific challenges that Deep Dark will face after the project is successfully funded are largely related to post-production. As the film itself will be shooting concurrently with the running Kickstarter campaign, the editing, scoring, color correction, and so on will begin immediately following the end of the campaign. One of our co-producers, David Woods, has experience in post production supervision on such TV shows as Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, and Everybody Hates Chris and will be guiding us along the way. You can never fully predict what the specific risks and challenges will be but our team has the experience and capabilities to handle anything that comes our way. We’re ready if you are!
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
