Max Spencer is very sick. But he doesn't let that hold him back. Follow along as he invents new ways out of a bad situation.

The Background

On March 10, 2012, I received devastating news about my son Logan. An MRI showed that he had a rare form of brain cancer that manifested in a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). That moment changed our entire family's life. Logan struggled to walk, stand, use his arms, and even think. After two weeks in the hospital, we transferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. There he underwent radiation therapy as well as started a regiment of experimental chemotherapy.

Logan has always been a very creative child. He thinks on a different level from any 6 year old that I have ever met. He would often come to me and tell me of these grand and intricate designs for new things. Shortly before he got sick he decided that he wanted to make a potion to change him into anything in the universe. One of his school teachers recently told me that Logan had once informed him of this potion and that Logan wanted to be a giant tree. Shortly after Logan got sick and was suffering from the ill side effects of an impacted brain tumor (lack of strength and balance in the extremities), Logan told me that he wanted to build a suit of armor to correct his ailments. He wanted boots to make him run without falling and gloves to make him strong enough to never drop anything, no matter how heavy. He said, "But most of all, I want a helmet to make me remember everything and be able to talk fast like I used to."

Instead of being read to, Logan always wanted a special made up bed time story that he could participate in. Logan always wanted to write a book with me. Finally, I had a real good story for that book. Max Spencer, Space Inventor is that book. It is the story of a boy who got sick and invented ways to compensate.

WHAT I NEED YOUR HELP WITH

The story itself is complete. I need help with the funding for an illustrator and layout designer. Any amount above that will allow me to spend more time with Logan and write additional books in the Max Spencer series (Do I hear stretch goals?) The main point of this project is to get the word out to children that they can do anything they want, in spite of any illness or trouble they may be experiencing.

If you can't give monetarily, please give some time and pass the word of this Kickstarter along. Logan and I both want to see this book in every school and hospital in the country. Thank you.
