WHAT IS IT?
A fantasy YA (young adult) novel headed to the big screen...
This debut, self-published, fantasy YA novel, "The Ice Hotel" is now being adapted to screen by 2011 Oscar-nominated screenwriters, Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson - (THE FIGHTER - best original screenplay). The book needs your help to get out into the world...
ABOUT THE BOOK:
In November 2008, a friend passed away. He was only 31. I saw him on a Friday and the very next day, I, like so many people I knew, got the call that he was gone. His death was shocking and devastating to all of us, and shortly after we lost him, I began to slam out the book... It became a way for me to do in a story what I could not do in real life - bring him back.
In the story, a family reeling from their eldest son's death accepts an invitation to the world-famous ICEHOTEL in Sweden - largely to escape their grief. While there, they encounter an Arctic magic that enables them to meet their lost son in another form.
WHY DOES THE BOOK NEED HELP?
Prior to the making of the film, we want to market the book so that it reaches the widest audience possible in its original/book form. At this point, most of the marketing has been via word of mouth and some internet push - eg: the reader-submitted "fan photos" with the book on the Amazon page and in the "fans with THE ICE HOTEL" Facebook album.
The publishing world as we once knew it has changed drastically in recent years. "The Ice Hotel" is one example of this change, in that I chose to go the route of self-publishing soon after I finished the manuscript. I did this for a few reasons:
1) Producer, Marvin V Acuna, and I developed a strategy to first utilize his film contacts to push for the adaptation of the book. Thankfully, this strategy proved successful.
Producers on board for the project are Marvin V Acuna - and Alan and Peter Riche of Riche Productions (credits include Southpaw with Eminem in 2012; Bride Wars; Starsky and Hutch; The Mod Squad; Duets; and currently in development = Rex Mundi with Johnny Depp; Einstein Theory with Zac Efron; Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic, etc...)
2) After losing a friend very suddenly, all I wanted was to hold the book in my hands as soon as possible - rather than wait for a publishing house to decide if and when it was okay to send the story out into the world... I am so thankful I chose not to wait...
WHAT WILL THE MONEY PAY FOR?
The money will pay for different levels of Twitter advertising via twtMob, including but not limited to celebrity-endorsed tweets and YA reader-focused marketing;
for bulk purchase of the symbolic 'two dog tags and a whistle on a chain' necklace, which will be distributed at events promoting the book;
for gifting of the book to Los Angeles Children's hospital and writing/reading focused nonprofits and public libraries;
for additional marketing efforts including Facebook, LinkedIn and similar internet ads - as well as print ads in publications aimed towards readers/young readers, ie: Celebrity High magazine;
for "fan photos with THE ICE HOTEL" contest and prizes
for editing, some equipment rental, craft service, and fees associated with start of audiobook recording of THE ICE HOTEL

MC Foley was born in Cebu, Philippines, raised in Virginia and resides in West Hollywood, CA. After winning a poetry slam competition in Oakland, CA - MC Foley paid rent with the winnings, and began touring as a performance poet, doing shows across the U.S. and overseas, including tours through the UK and Denmark, where Foley performed on Denmark's national radio station, Radio P3. Foley then wrote/acted lead in "The Coconut Masquerade," a play written entirely in verse and produced by Bindlestiff Studio in San Francisco's SOMA district. Segments of "Coconut," were featured in theaters around the country including the national Hip Hop Theater Festival and LA's Greenway Court Theater. Now in LA, MC Foley is an active novelist, screenwriter and weekly e-columnist on The Business of Show Institute's e-newsletter, which reaches 40,000+ global subscribers - www.thebusinessofshowinstitute.com. Foley also coordinates the Writers Guild of America, West's Showrunner Training Program, which provides training and resources to television writer-producers who are on the verge of running their own shows. "The Ice Hotel" arose from one awful Saturday in November ~ when a phone call reminded Foley just how fleeting our time is on this earth. After that day, the voices of Rossa, Izzie and Poe, as well as the multitude of stories that weave into the novel, grew swiftly. Until they were too loud to be ignored.
