A seven to ten minute short about loss, recovery, and finding one's way back from the darkness of grief.
Still shaken from the recent death of her father, college grad Jesse returns home to live with her stepmom, dulling the pain through a destructive party lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, and promiscuity. Yet when the mysterious and handsome Gabe moves in next door, he may prove to be just what Jesse needs to come to terms with herself and find her way back.
What is it?
The Guiding Light is a seven to ten minute dramatic short film written by aspiring director Scott Espanol. The project came to light as a collaboration between Scott and fellow filmmakers Jeremy and Jason Hill, all three of which are native to San Jose, California. The film will serve as a showcase for directorial, cinematic, and acting talent, and supplement our reels as we continue transitioning into the Hollywood Film Industry.
When and where will it be filmed?
We plan to shoot for three days across the second weekend of July- the 13th, 14th, and 15h, in and around our home town of San Jose, California, which will not only give the film a Bay Area feel, but also add a sentimental value and a hint of nostalgia, as the majority of cast and crew involved are originally from San Jose.
Who is involved?
The project will bring back together childhood friends Scott, James Bristow, and Amelia Brain, all of whom grew up together in San Jose before going their separate ways after elementary school.
So far the confirmed cast and crew list is as follows:
Scott Espanol - Director
Jeremy Hill - Director of Photography
Jason Hill - Camera Operator
Amelia Brain - Female Lead
James Bristow- Male Lead
Will Tenney - Assistant Director
Sarah Kamal - Production Design
Kevin Beggs - Sound Design
Brandon McMullen - Key Grip
Benjamin David - Grip
Jake Ravdin - Production Assistant
How will the budget be spent?
If successful, Kickstarter will provide us a unique opportunity to shoot with a new format that DP Jeremy has been anxious to work with:
The RED EPIC http://www.red.com/products/epic a digital camera with an incredible 5k sensor that emulates the look and feel of film. We are able to rent one for the entire weekend for $500.
The other $500 of our projected budget will be be distributed towards renting lighting and gripping equipment, feeding our cast and crew while on location, production design elements needed to enhance our sets, and any miscellaneous costs that may accrue, such as small fees for locations or paid parking.
The Guiding Light is more than just a short film project; it is a calling card that we will use to show the industry what we can do. It is a reunion of friends and family that all share a love and passion for filmmaking. It is a moral tale about loss, recovery, and finding the light that will guide us back to the path.
Please join and support us in producing this heartfelt dramatic narrative.
