Hi!
I'm a filmmaker, editor and producer. I currently am editing and producing Channel Frederator and Cartoon Hangover for the website chanelfrederator.com. And I'm trying to save a movie theatre in my hometown.
You must be kidding! For such a big project on such a short timeline, there must be more information to be seriously considered. What is the basis of $200,000? The cost of the IRS tax exempt application is $550; was that started or a pipe dream? I suggest you contact a local theater here that is tax exempt... the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg PA. It is truly a worthy cause, but the widespread support must be solicited first, and must be reasonable to obtain grants and bigtime supporters.
If I'm allowed to program a film I'm going to put on El Topo
Good luck on the project. But,you might want to consider starting the nonprofit even if you dont obtain the theater. Such groups often can influence city councils and current owners as far as usage and historical status of the building and a registered non-profit can apply for grants that would help obtain or rent teh building.
PS hey dont knock us live theaters that work out've former movie houses ;) Often were what keep the buildings standing and paid for if the houses cant compete with the local cineplex. And teaming up with an arts group adds to your numbers to fight City hall and developers.
Central PA needs all the help it can get to keep some kind of entertainment there!
Positive juju!
Sweet idea. Count me in. I can't do much right now, but I'd love for this theater to stick around for a long time.
thanks sarah! It's going to be amazing!
Very cool idea Matthias! Good Luck!!
