Update #5: Vocals....done!

Posted on August 4, 2010

Guitars were finally done last week and Rob finally got to shave! He was happy about that. They sound great! So it was on to Asheville, NC for me to do vocals. So Rob and I, the kids and two great girls who came to babysit the kids packed up the van last Wednesday and headed out. We left at 7:30am. Those that know us, know that is super early for us. But we needed to get to Asheville since we only had a short amount of time to get the vocals done. After a few stops along the way, and a little car sickness from Wilson because of the winding roads, we arrived in the early afternoon, checked in to the hotel, got the kids settled, and got to the studio. It was great to see our producer Chris Rosser. Since the start of this project, we had been working with him via skype so it was nice to see him in person. We worked until midnight that night, and I got just 2 songs done. Two down, eight more to go. The two we did get done though, Rob added a little background vocals on. Yes, that's right.....Rob will be doing some background vocals throughout the CD. I know everyone will be excited about that! So the next morning we got to the studio with Starbucks in hand to knock out the rest of the vocals. After 3 more trips to Starbucks that day, we finished at 2am! We got it all done! We couldn't finish all the background vocals, so we will have to do some here at the house in Auburn, but we got all the lead vocals done. Chris had an amazing microphone at his studio, so we wanted to use that for the main vocals. It came out great! We even reworked one of the songs while we were there, so that took some extra time. We completely changed it! It's a brand new song that we've never played live, so I can't wait for everyone to hear it! It was inspired by the story of Moses.
The next day, we had breakfast, packed the van up and headed back home. I wish we were able to stay longer. The weather was so beautiful up there. As soon as we got on the highway, we all (except the driver of course) slept for the first 3 hours of the drive. Even Juan!! Yes, Juan (our dog) came with us. This was his first road trip and we found out is he a great traveller!
So everything is coming along well. We have a new logo that should be up on our website in the next few days, we've got the CD artwork being designed, we've got tee shirts being designed, and lots of other things in the works. The list is long, but things are getting checked off it day by day!

Oh, and I've got two birthday parties being planned right now too. Emery will be turning 3 on Aug. 21st and Wilson will be 5 on Sept. 16th. They are both excited about their upcoming birthdays. They are at such fun ages right now. We love being able to include them in the CD process too. They sing along to the songs, and have their favorites! I'm thinking in the next year, we will be doing a project that they will be able to sing on!

That's it for now! Please keep us in your prayers. We have a lot of decisions to make and want to make sure we are making the right ones!

Be well,
Jen

Sounds like great progress is being made. I love that it was a family adventure. Nothing strengthens the family bond quite like a little car sickness! Thanks for the updates:)

Update #3: Better Part Of Us

Posted on June 28, 2010

Here is a clip from the song "Better Part of Us" from the upcoming album, Love Revolution.

This is the song in it's beginning stages, the Drums are the only parts that are "keepers". The rest is just scratch tracks. For those that don't understand scratch tracks....we record the vocal & acoustic guitar, as rough takes just to give something for the other musicians to play too. Then we come back and lay down the final guitar and vocal. The bass guitar you here is the first ver sent to us from Houston. You'll get to here the final ver when the record comes out!

This song was started 4 years ago shortly after Wilson was born. It was finished this past April in a writing session with our producer, Chris Rosser.

Update #2: 4 Days to go!

Posted on June 27, 2010

Hello Everyone and many thanks, again, for pledging to back our new album. We cannot do it without you!

There are only 4 days left in this fundraising campaign. It ends this Friday @ 6pm cst. As you probably know, if we do not reach our goal or $10K, then your credit card will not be charge and we will not receive a dime.

We are still a little ways away from meeting our goal and would like to ask you if you could help us spread the word about our new album fundraising campaign. Feel free to post it on your facebook profile or send an email to your friends and family. All these useful "sharing" tools are available at our kickstarter page. (the page you were at when you made a pledge).

Andy Burcham, WANI 1400AM Morning Host in Auburn, AL has invited Jen to come on the air tomorrow morning (Monday) to talk about this project and help us make the general population aware of what we are doing. I think she will be on around 7:35 am cst if you would like to listen in.Thank you in advance Andy!

Many thanks again to all of you, an update regarding the project process is coming. We are doing another bass guitar session tomorrow!

Update #1: Drums are done!

Posted on June 16, 2010

We are happy to announce the project is moving a long right on schedule! Last week, River Guerguerian tracked all the drums at Hollow Reed Studio's in Asheville, NC. Our producer, Chris Rosser was engineering. Now, here is the cool thing about this 3 day session. We (Rob & Jen) were at home in our studio in Auburn, AL and were still a part of the sessions.

Thanks to video chat via Skype, we were able to sit on the sessions and work through the songs as if we were there in the studio! And if that's not enough, thanks to the Skype app for the iPhone, we were able to continue the session when we had to leave for Atlanta. Imagine driving down I-85 and sitting in on a drum session.

River absolutely nailed what we were shooting for. He has set the tone for the record and it's going to be killer! As I said a million times during the sessions, his snare sound is MONEY!

A little background about River, he is a full time drummer/percussionist for international touring artist Omar Furuk Tekbilek. I think he had just flown in from a few shows in India before doing the MT sessions. He's a super talented guy and we are very fortunate to have play on this record! Thanks River!

So now the project files have made their way to Houston, TX through the ether where they are waiting for our other producer Jerry York to get his hands on them and start laying down the bass!

Many, many thanks to you for helping us put out what will surely be the best MT record yet!

Martha's Trouble

Connected as Jen Slocumb (1156 friends)

The duo now lives in Auburn, Ala. Not exactly where they pictured themselves, but they wouldn’t give it up. Jen, from Ontario, Canada, and Rob, from Nashville, TN, are sure they’re where they are supposed to be. Everything the couple has done has been in pursuit of a musical dream, one that, so far, has paid off.

The past five years have been crucial for the duo. In addition to sustaining a career in music, Jen and Rob Slocumb started a family and are raising their two children – Wilson, 6, and Emery, 4. The time between albums allowed the couple to focus on their family and spirituality, both setting the tone for their release of “Anchor Tattoo.” (Feb. 1, 2011)

"With its 10th album, "Anchor Tattoo," the Alabama-based husband-and-wife duo Martha's Trouble continues to intensify the mystery as to why it remains a hidden gem." - BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
