Kickstarter does not think my project is worthy so is taking it down.
Hello everyone who has supported this project. I have to regretfully let everyone know that after Kickstarter approved the project to create ferrofluid keychains for today's youth, they are taking down the project because it simply is not cool enough in their book.
I encourage all 405 of my supporters to write to them and tell them your opinion. Their email is email@example.com
I am working on recreating project and ask that you email me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I may email you when it relaunches. I may decide to use another platform such as Indiegogo.com
They responded to me and said the following..
You're receiving this notification because your project does not meet our guidelines, which we take very seriously.
Projects on Kickstarter must be focused, creative endeavors and cannot be used to raise funds for purchasing and reselling goods.
Your project will be suspended within 24 hours of this notice, unless you decide to cancel it yourself. It is recommended that you alert your backers of this situation via direct message or by posting an update.
As you may notice they have a design category full of simple gadgets that are very similar to the keychain project and, in your opinion, the keychain project is likely the top 10 coolest project you have seen on here, hence you supporting the project. Most of my supporters have supported less than 5 projects.
Kickstarter stated to me that I had previously been rejected which is untrue. I launched a project in Febraury to create a ferrofluid sculpture. The project to create a sculpture ran the entire time but garnished very little support. Here is a link to that project. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/marktimms007/the-worlds-largest-morphing-ferrofluid-sculpture . You may have to copy and paste link. I have not been rejected by any ferrofluid project. I did try to submit the keychain project in August but had problems with amazon, not kickstarter in activating my account with a new bank so it took a while and had to relaunch it and they approved the project you supported at that time. Then, the ferrofluid project that you supported was a hit! It stayed on the first page and was one of the most popular projects for 20 days!!!
Here is the email transcript from me and kickstarter...Hi Mark,You're receiving this notification because your project does not meet our guidelines, which we take very seriously. http://www.kickstarter.com/help/guidelines Projects on Kickstarter must be focused, creative endeavors and cannot be used to raise funds for purchasing and reselling goods. Please tell me what I can do to keep this active! I have spent $1,000 plus on getting materials ready for this project. It is a creative project and you guys approved it. Can we resolve this issue please! Call me at 864.377.1882 I have raised close to $7,000 and have several news stories coming out this week! This is going to be an extreme embarrassment if you take it down. I mean, I can make some changes to the wording but I do not see any difference in my product and all other products in the design category. Please tell me what is going on????Sincerely,Kickstarter Support
to me Hi Mark,You previously submitted two proposals to make a key chain, and we declined both of those on these grounds. You were approved after you claimed you were making a sculpture, but this is not the project that you launched. You have until noon tomorrow to message your backers (if you wish) and cancel the project.Kickstarter-
Mark Timms to Kickstarter I think there has been some confusion. I had the project to do a sculpture several months ago. I had a problem verifying the page with amazon and that is th reason I had problems with the keychain project. Please explain what violation I have made. I have spent over $1,00 on ferrofluid and accessories to make this craft. I will conform but I need to know what I did wrong. I have an article coming out tomorrow on this project. The fact is, I want to make a sculpture and can include this on the project. I did not know that mattered.
Kickstarter Support to me Dear Mark --As we have stated, Kickstarter is a platform for funding creative projects, and this project does not fit our platform, as evidenced by the fact that twice before we have rejected it. Our decision here is final. You have until tomorrow at noon to message your backers if you wish, and to cancel the project.Kickstarter
Dear staff at Kickstarter. There seems to be some confusion on my project. It has been running successfully for 20 days raising almost $7,000! I am calculating that it will raise approximately $20,000 after the 40 day period. Today I got an email saying my project will be removed. After inquiring why, I got a response saying that my project was to build a ferrofluid sculpture and that my project was not a sculpture. The truth is, I had a project in Febraury to create a ferrofluid sculpture but it did not raise much money and was not successful on kickstarter. I did not want to create the same project twice if it was not successful. This time around, I thought I would make a simpler project to educate the youth about ferrofluid with keychain vials. The goal was to make thousands of ferrofluid keychain vials and have supporters give them to todays youth to spark an interest in science. That was the project that was approved by kickstarter. This project has not changed in any way since it was approved 20 days ago. Honestly, I would love to make a project to create a ferrofluid sculpture and that is what I intend to do with the funds. But, since the project was not successful, I thought that I needed to simplify it on here. Since you have emailed me, I decided to edit my project to explain that the funds will be used to create a giant ferrofluid sculpture for art and science museums to enjoy. I would have added that the first time but, like I say, the first project in February was unsuccessful at raising money for a sculpture so I thought by appealing to kids and making a simple novelty toy would be more successful at raising funds. I simplified it due to the fact most of your succesful projects are simple gadgets such as the tik tok watch and the coffee julies. I have spent over $1,000 in materials and have the TV News and newspapers in Charleston SC reporting on the success of my project this week. There has to be a way to resolve this. I have over 400 kickstarter members who love my idea. My idea is in the craft category. Of course I have to buy materials to make my craft but from my days in art school that is generally what crafts are and almost every thing in kickstarter's craft category is something put together from bought products. To be technical everything is pu together from bought products. A p[ainting for instance is made by applying bought paint to a bought canvas. I am not simply buying and selling a product, I am making a new craft. Why are you taking my project down?
They have not responded to this email. Once again I really appreciate everyone's support in this project! Please email your contact info so I can let you know any updates. Also I encourage you to email kickstarter at email@example.com with your opinion.
Thanks so much for your time everyone!
