All recorded and mixed- help us go the final steps to get the music to YOU!
Thanks so much for getting us to the $6,000 mark! Each and every one of you who backed this project will be getting your rewards soon (in the late fall). Meanwhile, please receive a huge virtual hug from Mark and Cindy!
If you love this music, we invite you to continue to assist us. Contact us at marklemairemusic (at) gmail (dot) com. Even thought the campaign has officially ended, we will gladly receive contributions to the CD's post-production, and will happily honor any new backers with the same rewards we offered during the campaign.
For us, this will always be a labor of love. We will be paying a couple thousand out-of-pocket in the end. But all of you backers have made it possible to get over the hump. From now on, we will all have a warm feeling, knowing that we can complete this thing. We're looking forward to sending you rewards in October!
And now, back to the introductory blurb:
The new Mark Lemaire and Twilight CD, “Home Isn’t Home" is just about ready. It's all recorded and we are finishing up the mixing right now! Click on the 'Updates' tab on top of this page to read up about (and hear) some of the individual songs on this CD and the stories behind them. Or just check out this medley for your listening pleasure (if the player just shows as a horizontal bar, click the left- hand end of it). Or watch the video to see me asking for money in my underwear.
Though I have been recording since I was twelve years old, this project is the first one with my partner Cindy van Empel and me together. We are so proud of the sound we have created, and especially happy that we can present these harmonies to you in concert.
The concept for this new CD is simple: one acoustic guitar, two voices--just like at a show. We’ve added bass and percussion sometimes to bring out depth and add juiciness to certain songs, but the cornerstone of the CD is our live act. Most of it is played live--no overdubs. We get a pretty big sound! Let me choose my words carefully here--ahem: I think you're going to like it.
In the long tradition of patrons supporting the arts, there have always been kings, arts-oriented countesses, and the church supporting orchestras, the opera, and talented painters and players. Fast forward to today: the music business of the 20th century is no longer here. Record companies no longer assist in developing a musician's career. We are expected to not only write beautiful music, but to pay for all the manufacturing, marketing and touring on our own. Good grief!
I am a recording engineer and producer (see http://rubatorecording.com/), so all the studio and engineering costs are covered--perhaps two-thirds the price of making an album. But there are musician fees: we have drummer Bob Blankenship, as well as Grammy-nominated guest players like Latin percussionist John Santos and bassist Michael Manring. There are mastering costs, CD artwork, manufacturing...and we have to cover all of this up front. What to do?
That’s why we are holding this Kickstarter campaign. Remember those rich countesses and bejeweled Popes? We are appealing to you as a patron of the arts: help bring the music that you love into the larger world!
Please peruse the donor rewards listed over in the right-hand column. Choose the level at which you'd like to participate (even the smallest donation makes a big difference to us), and know that we think the world of you!
OH! And do 'like' us on Facebook! The button is right under the video at the top of this page. Thanks
If you don't know about us already, go to marklemaire.com and check us out. You'll find tour dates, CDs already released, and etc.
Thanks so much!
Uh-huh! It is. Yes!
Four years. Getting better all the time.
Is it really OK if I just pledge a couple bucks? I don't want to appear cheap, but I am pretty poor these days....Every little bit helps- really! And not everyone has much money to pledge. Also, we get a tremendous boost just seeing a new backer come on board. It's a way of saying "I want to show you guys I care". Believe me, we LOVE it!
I actually have plenty of clothes. I was just trying to illustrate....oh, never mind. Yes! You can buy me a pair of pants...
