Armour: in Graphite is a hand-made body of work & book that celebrates the artisanal skill of the blacksmith

Where does the line between artist end, and artisan begin?

My name is Marcus, and I like to synth.

I traded in a graphic design internship for a ‘real job’ fixing computers the last year of art school. That bright-eyed art student, ready to paint the scene with creativity was met with the stiffling reality of a graphic designer. I often asked "How could I call myself an artist, if I have little  or no say in the end result?"  A good friend and well respected artist answered  “..most of us artists get paid to make pretty things, not get creative”. Insta-ready made, shiny, and mass produced is taking the place of the unique draftsmanship of  the artisan.

That vital connection between the artist and the hand made is fading fast as everything goes digital.

After I learned to work with metal, and armoring techniques; I set out to make a fusion between the artisan, and the artist. Graphite, after so many layers becomes like a workable metal, that glimmers like steel. Thus AIG is born.

That’s all fine and dandy Marcus, but whats in it for me?

I will be completing a body of work containing hand-drawn antique armour with graphite and mixed media. The sizes will vary between 9x12 24x18 and 8.5x6 . All the peices will be digitiezed and made into a full color hardcover book, and E-book.

Furthermore, all  of the pieces will be available for you Kickstarters signed, and matted or professionally framed.

Bottom line: You get hand-made original artwork, digital media, and art-books!

Ok, so why do you need all that funding?

I'm working feverishly towards having all of the pieces finished, framed, digitized, and shipped out by Decemberr of this year. Currently, budget is the only speed bump ,that's where you come in! :)

The vast majority of your funding will go towards:

-Art supplies like Bristol board, graphite pencils, graphite chunks, smudge sticks, vinyl erasers, the list goes on

-Printing runs and Book Binding

-Promotion, studio and equipment rentals

-Framing

-Shipping costs

If there is anything left, it will go towards future peices and production, and maybe bacon.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or want to collab on a custom piece!
