Senior Art Capstone Project: color reduction woodcuts of my modern interpretations of the 22 Major Arcana of Tarot Cards.

My four years at Elmhurst College are coming to an end, and as usual, I want to go out with a bang. To complete my Fine Art degree here, I must complete my Senior Capstone. This consists of an intense and rigorous project that encompasses my past four years of learning and experiences here.

My Capstone project is a series dedicated to the historical practice of Tarot Cards. I will produce 22 color reduction woodcuts that will express my modern and symbolic view on each card. I will try to incorporate my life, my style, and everything I am in these cards.

Unfortunately, being a printmaker (especially a woodcut artist) requires a ton of time, effort, and most importantly money. I have the drive, the knowledge, and the want - now all I need is the money and I need your help to get it! Without the funding, I will not be able to buy the supplies and materials I need to fully complete my project. Furthermore, if I don't complete the project, I cannot complete the requirement to graduate.

Please, be the gems that I know you are and help me reach my goal. I will be forever grateful and you will be funding a great cause and more importantly helping keep alive a dying art form.

Enjoy your life & I'll see you out there,

Hannah Manocchio

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The art of woodcuts is one that is ancient but also one that is extremely difficult. Each cut is permanent, each slip of your hand can completely ruin a piece. There are hours upon hours spent just carving each layer of the print. More time and effort is then added during the printing process where each layer of ink has to be equally saturated and impeccably registered so that each layer lines up.

After all this is done, my project is finished, I have the next big challenge. That is when installation will come in and I have to figure out how to present my work to the community. Even after that is over and done, I must then try to sell my work to the public and begin to make a name for myself.

Regardless of any setbacks and challenges, I promise to strive to finish my project to the best of my abilities and begin to make my art a career. These past four years have taught me to constantly account for setbacks, challenges, and difficult situations. In addition, I have learned how to plan ahead and overcome them and finish what I set out to do.
