Update #3: thailand was amazing

Posted on October 3, 2009

so i totally started writing this long detailed blog about my trip and then i had to restart firefox and it all got lost. so.. i just don't know if i have it in me to do it all over again.

i'd like to say thanks to everyone who helped me make my dream come true. thailand was absolutely amazing. i really really loved it. the entire trip was one of the best things i've ever done and i will definitely be doing more trips like this in the future. and i hope to go back to thailand some day.

the thai people were great, especially the (70+) children (and 4 teachers) at the preschool i worked at. and the starfish staff were really wonderful and so helpful. i made some great friendships with some of the volunteers too, i hope to see them in the future as well.

i also visited cambodia, which was also pretty amazing. i've posted a lot of pics on my flickr sight (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mandawalker79/sets/72157616745713143/) i still have more to post, hopefully those will be up soon. please, if you have any questions about my trip, please ask me, i'd love to talk about it. i'm just finding myself totally swamped with school and work right now, that i knew if i put off this post any longer, it would never get done.

anyway, thanks again!!! and thailand is a great place, you should all go visit. we'll see where my life takes me over the next few years, but i'm not ruling out adopting a thai child! :)

Update #2: we did it!

Posted on June 30, 2009

hey everyone,
with only a few hours to spare, sarah anderson stepped up and gave the rest of what was needed to reach the goal. what a wonderful surprise to wake up to this morning! thank you sarah!

i've been getting more and more nervous over the last day or two... things like this scare me a little, but that's partly why i'm doing it. :) gotta love a challenge.

i worked my last day yesterday. it was a little sad to say good bye to the kids, they were very sweet. :) this morning i am waking up and trying to get motivated to get all of these things knocked off my list- packing, cleaning, getting all of my paperwork and documents in order and such, taking care of my pets, paying my rent, stopping the mail.... all the fun stuff. i hope i don't forget anything.

wish me luck everyone, and thank you so much for all of your support!!!

Update #1: getting close now :)

Posted on June 29, 2009

hey everyone. things are going good. i already have $300 toward my $500 goal with 9 backers! you guys are awesome! thank you so much. and if you donated more than $50 make sure to send me an email with your address so that i can send you a postcard from Thailand. it's getting close now.. only 1 day left to reach the $500 goal, but i think we can make it. thanks to everyone for spreading the word through twitter, tumblr, facebook, etc.
only 3 more days till i get on that plane, i'm very excited and also very nervous. i guess i'm feeling pretty unprepared, because i just don't know what to expect, but i have to keep reminding myself that there is really no way to prepare for something like this.. you just have to go and do it. and i know i can do it. i know i can :)
thank you guys so much for believing in me and for your support. it means so much.
