Hello, folks! I am very sorry for the long delay in putting out any word. I finally have a computer I can use after having mine stolen at the beginning of my trip (leaving me only my phone for internet -- and it hung every time I tried to log into Kickstarter). Very frustrating for me -- but probably not as frustrating as it has been for all of you not hearing about your investments. I apologize for causing you frustration.
The main reason (of several) for the delay was a bug that was found upon final testing before packaging the units two days after I started to travel (I'm still traveling now). My friend Bill has been tracking down the bug since. He just fixed the bug yesterday.
I am now going through the very tedious process of re-creating the spreadsheet of who gets what rewards where. (I have a complete backup of my computer at home, but I won't be home for awhile, and I want to send you your rewards as soon as possible.)
It will take my manufacturer a few days to re-program all of the NeuroDreamer sleep masks with the new firmware. After that, all of the units will be shipped out via DHL to everyone, direct from China. After I get home, I will email everyone their DHL tracking number.
I'm going to send out an update with this info (plus a bit more).
Thanks to Jacob for contacting me, and for forwarding my message a few days ago.
Best,
Mitch.
Creator Tulley on May 8
@Jacob Yes, thanks. Nice to get some word on whats going on, although we still don't have any sort of time frame.
Creator Nicole on May 7
@Jacob thank you so much for the update :) I really appreciate it!
Creator Jacob Anderson on May 6
"I've been swamped while traveling, and, unfortunately, my laptop was stolen on my first day in England (so I've only had my phone for internet) . We found a bug in the firmware just before shipping. It is now fixed. I need to recompile the list of which units to send to whom. Then I can ship them directly from Shanghai to all Kickstarter backers. -- Mitch."
Creator Jacob Anderson on May 6
He just accepted my friends request on FB. Just sent him a personal message.
Creator Jacob Anderson on May 6
Anyone hear anything back yet?
Creator Eric Meli on April 30
I posted this in the "Updates" thread back on the 23rd, a month after Mitch said things were to have shipped out DHL:
"I understand that things happen, but providing us more than just written reassurances would go a long way. Could you please post images of the final model/sample, the finished manuals, the shipping manifest...something."
Creator Jacob Anderson on April 30
I sent him a note yesterday.
Creator Nicole on April 24
Has anyone attempted to contact Mitch via the "Contact Me" link on the right? Or via his Twitter or Facebook? Perhaps either of those would be easier avenues since these pleas for information seem to be falling short. Just curious so that I don't replicate attempts!
Creator Jacob Anderson on April 24
@Tulley Agreed. How was it that less than a month ago these were "ready to ship". If they aren't ready to ship, let us know what the hold up is. If they are, whats the ETA. That is all we need to know.
Mitch, let your loyal backers know. Please!
Creator Tulley on April 23
According to his facebook page, his about to leave town for 3 weeks. I'm guessing we won't be hearing anything anytime soon. I am definitely starting to get a little grumpy about this, get the feeling this is vaporware.
"I leave NYC tomorrow for the UK, giving talks and workshops for 3 weeks!
UK Maker Faire, MadLab hackerspace (Manchester), Electromagnetic Wave (hacker conference on a boat! in London), Bristol Hackspace, BuildBrighton hackerspace."
Creator Nicole on April 16
I fourth the call for an update. It's been 13 days since I initially asked if the masks were about ready to ship, and I think that's plenty of time for a "yes" or "no" along with a short explanation of what's up. I'd appreciate it!

it has now been a month, just wondering when the next update will be.
Creator Michael on April 3
I'm wondering how the printing went, and if they are ready to ship or if there will be some other delay.
Creator Jacob Anderson on April 3
Indeed. Has there been any word? It's past the 23rd.
Creator Nicole on April 3
Any word on if the masks are about ready to ship?
Creator MIke Nutt on March 25
oops! you already answered this is the last update :)hope all is on track, and congrats for getting to the finish line!
Creator MIke Nutt on March 25
must be close to the finish now! :)
are they shipping straight from the manufacturer ( or distributor ) to international supporters, or being put together as a package in the US?
Creator Eric Meli on March 11
Fantastic news. Thank you for the update, Mitch.
Creator Mitch Altman on March 4
I'm told that the boxes are now printed. Still no word on the User's Manuals. When I get word, I'll send out an update to everyone.
Creator Michael on February 28
im just wondering about the status of this project currently.
Creator Nicole on January 19
Thanks Mitch! Super excited about the product :)
Creator Mitch Altman on January 18
Everything is done now except the artwork for the packaging and the User's Manual.
I'm about to send out an update...
Creator Nicole on January 15
Like Eric, I'd also appreciate an update on the status of the product and when it will be released. I have a few international flights coming up and would love to have my mask before then!
Creator Eric Meli on January 11
So, how's that testing going? Any word, or progress report? How about some shots of the inventory lined up and ready to ship as soon as the FCC says, "Alright, these're good." or something?
Creator Heri Sim on December 4
Please do whatever you can... remember why you started this in the first place.
Creator Mitch Altman on November 30
The FCC testing is still happening, and should be finished any day now. And we are waiting for the final artwork for the packaging, and the final artwork for the User's Manuals. The manufacturer for the buttons used the wrong color, and is fixing that problem, and they should have the new buttons ready this next week. When these four things are finished, we can actually ship production models of NeuroDreamer sleep masks! I will be sending them out whatever way I need to so that people can receive them before Christmas. I can't absolutely guarantee this, since I don't have control over the global postal systems, but I will do whatever I can.
Creator Eric Meli on November 29
It's NOW the end of November, not "it's not the end..."
Creator Eric Meli on November 29
The last update, over a month ago, stated "What this means is that we may not have units until the end of November (instead of the end of October, as planned)."
It's not the end of November. Any new updates? Christmas is coming and speaking for myself (if not others), I hope I don't need to scramble and find another gift for someone on my list.
Creator Mitch Altman on October 17, 2012
Thanks for asking!
I've been way busy solving all of the details that need to be solved to manufacture a new product. Together with my manufacturer, we've solved lots of interesting and challenging problems, including: getting the foam inside the mask to work well in mass production, making the three control buttons more reliable, making the electronics more durable, ensuring the safety and longevity of the small recharbeable battery, making a great-looking box that I could afford, and several other interesting problems that needed to be solved. And, it's all paid off, since I think we now actually have everything all solved. (Awesome.)
And, until yesterday, it still looked like I was on target to getting the first batch of NeuroDreamer sleep masks manufactured by the end of this month. Then I found out that (even though there is no radio in NeuroDreamer sleep masks) I need to have FCC testing done on them (to ensure that they don't put out too much unintended radio noise) -- otherwise the finished NeuroDreamer sleep masks might not make it through the border into the US. I don't yet know how long this will take. I should know within a week. And then I'll post an official update. Please stay tuned!
Creator Timbo on October 17, 2012
I was just wondering the same thing myself... ;)
Creator Heri Sim on October 16, 2012
Any updates on progress? Thanks!
Creator Mitch Altman on September 6, 2012
I'm really glad the NeuroDreamer sleep mask helps your wife, David! I hope the snoring doesn't keep you awake. :)
Best,
Mitch.
Creator David Eliason on September 6, 2012
Got mine today. Wife has trouble sleeping. She is snoring away now. Thanks Mitch.
Creator Mitch Altman on August 20, 2012
Hey Dean, David,
Yup, that is what happened -- there were a few big backers during the last hours -- people who wanted to see.the project succeed (for which I'm way grateful).
I am behind in sending out the July reward. I'm really sorry for my lateness. I'll be sending out all the July rewards within the next week, or so (as soon as i can, now that I' back from my travels, doing workshops around the US).
I just met with my manufacturer last night, and we are still on target for production being finished in October. I'l keep you posted.
Best,
Mitch.
Creator David Eliason on August 20, 2012
Relax Dean. Mitch just sent out the survey for prototype backers. They should be through customs and shipped out next week. For the extra $20k I believe that came from the one backer at the $1337 price point. You can pledge more than the reward you take.
You will notice that the 1337 reward is the "Open Source DIY Congrats" reward. I personally followed a link from Adafruit to find this kickstarter and I expect that this project was topped up by an open source HW aficionado with deep pockets.
Creator Dean Wilder on August 20, 2012
Im a little suspicious.. the pledge was $20,000 off with a few days to go and all of sudden made it... yet the pledges don't add up unless some one donated $20,000.... now there are "delays" .. hopefully i'm wrong. im am more of a pessimist.
Creator David Eliason on August 8, 2012
Cool. Thanks for the update Brian. I love CM and supplier delays.
Creator Brian on August 8, 2012
I'm surprised Mitch hasn't responded yet. I sent him an email two weeks ago and got a response Sunday. Here is what he said "I apologize for the delay in responding. There's a delay in getting the prototypes out because of delayed shipping from China. We should be receiving them soon, and will program them with the latest firmware once we receive them, and send them out the same day." Hopefully we will hear more from him soon.
Creator Brandon on August 7, 2012
Hey Mitch and co, we're coming up on 3 weeks now since funding was approved. When are we going to get a survey and see those prototypes shipped out?
Creator Jeremy Casa on August 3, 2012
An update would be great! Thanks Mitch
Creator David Eliason on August 2, 2012
I don't mean to pester, but I am curious as to the schedule for getting out the double congrats prototypes. Thanks.
Creator swarm on July 16, 2012
i am very glad the goal was reached! yay!
Creator Nicole on July 16, 2012
As a last-moment-backer, I'm thrilled this reached its goal! I just wish I would have found it sooner, and I can't wait to get the end product. Thanks, Mitch, and congratulations :)
Creator Bob Segal on July 16, 2012
yeah!!
Creator KentKB on July 16, 2012
I sure am glad I upped my funding, for this great project! Congratulations to you Mitch.
