Update #14: In less than 12 hours...

Posted on May 5
In less than 12 hours, Alex (and the film crew) will be in the air, on our way to where he and Ali are going to be reunited for the first time in 35 years. THANK YOU for your support during Pride 2011 last June when we publicly launched the project - we couldn't have made it here without you! We're leaving from Chicago O'Hare and have 2 connections in Europe before landing at our location late Sunday night. Ali arrives Monday morning, and we'll be at the airport to greet him!! Having worked on this project for 3 years now, I can't believe the actual reunion is less than 48 hours away! I'll be posting pix to the film's facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/alexandali), and tweeting updates @alexandali If there's any message you'd like me to deliver to Alex and Ali upon their reunion, please send a message to me here on Kickstarter, or you can post on our facebook wall. Thanks again for your support, and for all the encouraging messages and words! Best, Malachi Leopold

Update #13: Chicago Tribune Coverage of "I am the Water, You are the Sea"

Posted on December 15

Chicago Tribune writer Nina Metz did a great write up on the project's continued development today!  Check out the article here:

It's exciting to think that the reunion is a little more than 90 days away!  We're working on the logistics for filming the reunion, both safely and making sure we don't miss the crucial moments of "first sight" and "first contact" after more than 34 years of separation. It looks like we'll be using crew both from the U.S. and from Europe, and are even figuring out how we could use an old 8mm film camera to capture some of the moments.

And, with the winter fast upon us (at least here in Chicago!), here's a picture from the 1970's when Alex and Ali were traveling together during a winter in northern Iran:

(If you didn't know it snows in Iran, it does indeed!  Ski resorts are highly popular destinations in the winters!)
