About this project
Nous is a hand-processed black & white 16mm film by Maïa Cybelle Carpenter with a lush soundtrack by Jon Leidecker (aka Wobbly, the electronic musician). Shot over a nine-year period in the USA, France and Canada, it looks at how we build relationships and in turn, how relationships build us. It has a unique, bilingual voice-over that is in French and in English.
This Kickstarter campaign is to raise finishing funds to make 16mm titles, transfer the digital sound master to optical sound and make three 16mm prints of the film. Also included in the fundraising goal is insured shipping to and from the film lab in Burbank, CA and film festivals.
The original was shot on hi-contrast black and white 16mm film and transfers to HiDef video do not even begin to do it justice. Once I have final prints, you'll be delighted by the actual 16mm film projection; it's gorgeous!
The work-in-progress has been submitted to a number of international film festivals and art exhibition venues.
I've put together some very cool rewards to thank you for supporting my project. I look forward to sharing my film with each and every one of you when it plays in a theater, museum or art gallery near you!
**Please note that the video is just to show that the film is indeed on film. I shot the video off a work-print of "Nous" **
