I'm a media-creator and journalist. I've been trying to write novels since I was five years old (Hardy Boys: Case of the Pirate Treasure) but I just finished my very first one (The Collective). When I'm not excitedly hammering out first drafts or slogging through re-writes, I do online news for San Francisco-based Current TV.
I received my books in the mail today. Thank you Andrew! :D
I'm writing right now! Here's a taste:
I was in the passenger seat of a 1971 Pontiac Grand Am and there was Burt Reynolds, driving. I want to be clear here: I am not Burt Reynolds. Burt Reynolds was Burt Reynolds, in the stretching but somehow ageless flesh himself. His famous leaden foot was deployed. The speedometer was at 93 mph. “This is a 1971 Pontiac Grand Am,” he said.
“I noticed,” I responded.
I'm super excited and impatient! Reading all the suggestions that built up before Feb. 5 made me so antsy! I want to read it NOW! Haha. Is it Tuesday yet? No? Dangit!
Good 'nuff.
Heartily agreed Nichole. I wrote up a little bit about it on my blog a while back - but here's the way I've been describing it.
"It’s sort of lite sci fi. Set in a world very much like our own – not very far in the future – with the addition of one technology: Squad glasses. Like the smartphone of the future, on the backs of your lenses. All the data you’d ever need and it’s put there by outsourced labor in developed countries. And then…THERE’S A MURDER!"
I'm curious to know what the book is about. Like, a book as a prize is cool, but it'd be cooler if I knew I would dig it.
Who fancies forming a collective within a collective? I mean, we *could* each spend $7 or $15 but why not pool it and combine ideas to come up with a killer $100 plot caveat?
Note: this idea basically comes about because I'm too cheap to spend $100 and too unimaginative to move away from forcing Andrew to write about the time he french-kissed Hitler.
As Nemesissy as ever (there has GOT to be a better way to spell that!), but a deal is a deal--even if made via IM. (Maybe I'm more of a Nemedupe, as I'm paying you for something we've been doing for years, Mr. "Mack the Knife.)
