I just got a message today from one of my patrons asking for an update and I thought, "what a good idea!"
I shall now begin.
As they say in the beginning of "Supernatural"--'The Road So Far'...(cue the song "Carry On Wayward Sons" by Kansas--and, incidentally--the name of the 80's cover band I want to hire for my Bony Levi Zombie Prom which I'm planning for next year's Comic Con)...
Since March 24 2011, when I put up my last post I found a comic book artist who completed the first issue of The Misanthropic Misadventures of Bony Levi, Bony Goes To Prom. His name is Louis Pieper and he is a rising star in the animation community. He then became my agent and manager. He got the book printed and sent over from Korea, he hand carried 2 one hundred pound boxes on the Greyhound bus from Long Beach (the location where the boxes were dropped off from the cargo carrier) all the way up to San Francisco in time for the Alternative Press Expo last October 13th.
One year to the day from my last post, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! I am a little older than most first time mothers so it was hard on my health and my bank account. In August we realized we had to make a financial decision. Either pay the rent or finish the comic book. After 5 years of trying to get this comic book made I wasn't willing to wait any longer so we all moved in with my Stepdad (me, my husband, our baby and our 3 cats. Shout out to the stepdad!!!). It meant leaving our beloved apartment right next to the Graumann's Chinese Theater and returning to Northern California for a spell. But the comic book has been made and we are all together as a family. Which are the two most important things to me.
On October 31st, a wonderful comic store owner by the name of Kathy Bottarini gave me my first signing at her shop, The Comic Book Box in Rohnert Park (please take minute to LIKE her Facebook page!). There, I met the illustrious Ross E. Lockhart whom Kathy had paired me up with because of the Cthulu-like monster on the cover of Bony Goes To Prom. Ross is a writer who has edited 2 editions of "The Book of Cthulu", a series of short stories inspired by H.P Lovecraft's story. It's a wonderful series and I highly recommend it, you can find it on Amazon. He has offered to take a copy of Bony Goes To Prom over to Darkhorse for me!!!
Yesterday, I sent in my credentials to Comic Con to maintain my Professional status (something I was granted years ago for producing a couple of short films that screened at CCSD) and I was concurrently able to apply for a panel. My idea is to do a panel on the trials and tribulations of getting Bony Levi made. I have no idea if my story is typical or if it is unusual but I definitely think anyone out there who wants to make a comic book could learn a lot about the do's and don'ts of getting one made!
We are planning on staying up North, near the baby's grandparents through the Holidays and will return to LA in time for Wondercon.
Today I am headed over to Staples to pick up a giant box of envelopes so I can send off this long awaited comic book. Thank you so much for your patience. I have gotten most of the t-shirts out, but there are still a few who have not received theirs and for this I heartily apologize. Rest assured I am on top of it and it will happen. You should be receiving a copy of Bony Levi in 10 to 14 days!!!
