Update #21: Esperando el Tsunami - new website and film

Posted on November 10, 2011

(versión en español mas abajo)

Dear all,

Finally!!! After months of transcontinental conference calls and long editing sessions, we are in the final production stage of our film, Esperando el Tsunami (Waiting fo the Tsunami). We are doing the final sound mix of the movie, and will be sending you a link to watch it online in the next few days.

We have completed this project thanks to your support. Expect the film very soon!

Today, we are also very happy to announce the launch of our website, www.esperando.cc

 * People all over the world will be able to organize their own Private-Public screenings of the movie by signing up on www.esperando.cc  If you want to create a private screening that is open to the public, please visit: Host a Screening

People can also request to host a Lulacruza concert through the www.esperando.cc website . We are very excited to introduce these Private-Public concerts which allow micro-communities of people to collaborate over distances in order to create something happen collectively! Sign up at Host a Concert: and we will provide you with a tool kit to help you organize the event in your community.

* The www.esperando.cc website will be a hub for films, recordings and Do It Together events created around the project. Throughout the following months, we will be making updates and posting Outtakes and mini-albums of the amazing musicians we encountered. Also, check in regularly to see what has been added to our concert schedule at: Attend a Concert.

* And last, but not least, the first official review of the film! Esperando el Tsunami has been officialy selected by the CPH:DOX Festival happening right now in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“Vincent Moon, who won the Sound & Vision Prize in 2009 with his masterpiece ‘La Faute des Fleurs’, is back with what he calls his best film ever. We are not reluctant to agree with him. ‘Esperando el tsunami’ is an intoxicating picture & sound piece disguised as a road movie. Alejandra and Luis, the two young musicians in the South American duo Lulacruza, travel across Colombia to take the country’s musical nectar and transform it into their almost shamanic trance sessions, which call to mind Animal Collective’s early days. On the heels of them follows Moon with his sensuous-seeking camera and responsive musicianship -which make him into something quite unique in today’s film world. This hipster-vagabond who single-handedly revived the music video as an art form, is now doing the same with music documentary. But ‘Esperando El Tsunami’ is greater than its own genre, with its extreme close-ups of nature’s smallest details that open the film gradually up, as a magical-realism love story of the most beautiful kind. There is no doubt. Vincent Moon has done it again.” CPH:DOX

The film premieres November 25th worldwide.

Thanks for being a fundamental part in this beautiful creative collective process!

Connected as Luis M Maurette (1567 friends)

LULACRUZA is an electronic folk duo at the junction of the hypermodern and the ancient. Their music weaves together hypnotic female singing, South American instruments, found sound objects, field recordings, and electronic manipulation. The result is a cross-genre, world-esque music unfolding with mesmerizing vocals, aquatic textures and up-tempo, handcrafted South American rhythms. Lulacruza is made up of Alejandra Ortiz (Colombia) and Luis Maurette (Argentina). Alejandra is an extraordinary songbird and plays the Colombian cuatro, shruti box, tar and kalimba. Luis Maurette complements with electronic processing and sequencing, as well as percussion, charango, and amazonian flutes.
