I couldn't be more excited. This Kickstarter campaign is for the publication and distribution of my first ever published book. "Departing Eden" is a collection of my original poetry. Beginning back in early 2001, I began writing down my thoughts on paper with the purpose that I'd convert something dark and gloomy into something pleasing to the senses. I didn't know it then, but I was well on my way to the creation of a definitive "something". The characters I met along the way, old friends and past lovers, as well as desperate situations and near death experiences, were the backdrop for this book.
BECOMING THE POET
I'm a full time stay at home dad, and as many parents out there will attest, finding time to dedicate to a hobby is near impossible, even harder when it comes to writing. But I still push ahead and give it my best. I suppose I am motivated to get my writings out by the life that has been presented before me.
Being a family man has changed me and given me a greater purpose, allowing me to reflect on who and what I was; the ghost of man on a mission to escape from what was perhaps his greatest enemy. Himself.
Being a musician for more than a decade, in and out of bands, as well as an accomplished performing artist on the virtual platform of Second Life for almost 5 years, the concept of writing poetry has never been something new, but slowly I began to understand these weren't lyrics I was composing. I'd tapped into something sinister, even surreal; a part of me I didn't know existed but wanted out in a bad way. Fast forward to a decade later and I recognize now with a displaced sense of urgency that "Departing Eden" is a title fitting enough for my first book of poetry, which brings us to now.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I've a goal in mind and it's NOT to get rich OR become famous because of this project. Not that I am setting my expectations low either. Point is, people, I attain to reach out to an audience lying in wait, undiscovered; those who love poetry and have an open mind for the style in which I have written and offer with every fiber of my being. This book is an extension of myself (deep unresolved issues, dark emotions, addiction, desires, etc.) in art form. Asking you to help me fund this book is asking for your much needed aid in making it possible for readers to delve deep into my being with a magnifying glass.
With Departing Eden, there are no secrets held back. You will finally see who the man really is at the cellular level, all defenses broken down as you are lured by a voice patiently waiting to be heard. By funding this project, you're not only helping me release my first collection of poetry, you will also be assisting in achieving my life-long dream of becoming a published author.
WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING?
Achieving my funding goal will cover all publishing costs for 250 copies of the book. Basically, all money goes towards printing and production of the book, and bookmarks, AS WELL AS recording and production of the audio version of the book to be released as MP3 & CD (300 CD's to be exact).
I'm all for quality, so when it comes to my first ever book getting published, I want "Departing Eden" to turn out being more than just pages adhered together. I'm with you guys, and the idea is that it should be a beautifully manufactured book, one tediously arranged, printed on quality paper and not one page missing in the process! The type of book that stands out from the rest of the others on your bookshelf. I take great pride in delivering a book that's nothing short of perfect. Plain and simple.

Tainted words
‘ Nenlach ’ entered the small habitation,
with thoughts from the night before.
Those dreams brought realization.
Tainted words on adjacent paper.
The war of ‘ Sutlandia ’
would soon come later.
Chiseled blocks of wood fall into
the emptiness of my mind.
They brought many kennels that day.
To be exact, they brought all nine.
“ Save your soul for a needed day. ”
These are the sayings of a bachelor slave.
They’d sold him for a nickel,
but the rest of him they’d buy today.
The day they let me die
I actually wept the day it came.
A sadness like no other swept over me.
All of the angels, both fallen and not,
came down the imaginary stairway
to comfort my filthy wounds.
You would’ve liked to have seen that.
There’s nothing like the sight of ‘ Beelzebub ’,
as he tries to serve you hot tea.
And God, drawing blood samples on my deathbed,
discussing the politics of lust.
Today, I am able to look back.
I am no longer afraid. I no longer doubt.
Life seems to be going in the right direction.
I guess all I needed was a tragedy.
That’s all my life is…

Yes! There is no cap on the funds that the project can raise. As mentioned above, all money raised will go directly to publishing my first poetry book! The uses include printing copies of the book, bookmarks and distribution of "Departing Eden" audio book.
