Eco-friendly Art Program on Public TV: Summary of Project

You can see clips of the show on http://www.LoriKreinTV.com.

I have always been passionate about creativity, the environment, and art. I've also always been a bit of a ham. I dreamed of having my own TV show to share information about being an eco-friendly artist (like a cooking show, but art projects instead of food) and my dream came true in 2009. After spending a year learning how to be a producer at the local public access station, I was on the air.

The program focuses on using using eco-friendly materials to make art, like Nepali handmade lokta paper, which is an environmentally friendly and sustainable resource that is harvested and produced naturally. The bark of lokta is harvested by hand without destroying the plant and the Lokta bush naturally regenerates.  Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/2302633

Sometimes, I use found object to make assemblages, too. (I love going to yard sales...and I need to do SOMETHING with the things I find)

Next step...broadcasting nationwide

After receiving positive feedback from my local audience, and receiving Producer of the Year award from CreaTV San Jose in 2010, I am ready to take the show nationwide.  A few public access stations have already begun broadcasting, but funding is scarce. If I can provide funding for downloading costs, more stations can broadcast the show.

But am I qualified to follow through?

Can I handle this? YES! I've already produced over 25 episodes!!  My 16-year-old son and I do the show together. He handles all the technical aspects like filming and editing, while I handle the creative aspects of the show like what the topic will be. We tape in the TV studio or my art studio, and we visit other local artists in their studios to see how and where they work.

What's the money for?

The money is for production costs (like equipment and studio rental), post-editing work, and to allow even more public access stations around the country to broadcast the show. So far, I have been spending my own money on this project and I need some help to keep it going.

Check out all the incentives. Artwork, classes, and an appearance on the show are offered.  I have finally found my passion in life, and I hope you will support me in spreading the word...art can be eco-friendly.

Thanks so much for your support.

I never imagined I could have my own TV show, because I have no formal training in broadcasting or media, or video technology. All I had was an idea...I knew exactly what the program would look like..but who would ever take a chance on ME? As it turned out, I took a chance on myself, and it was the best thing I could ever do. I was watching TV one day, and the public access station had this message: "Do you want to produce your own TV show? Call us!" So, I did. The people who work at the station were so supportive, I could never have done this without them. Thanks to Suzanne St. John Crane, Walter, Juan, Luis, Pam, Drena, Justin, Alison, and everyone else who has helped me on this journey.

It's a Family Project

The best part of this project has been working with my son, Jason. He got involved right away, as he got trained and certified to use the video equipment, lights, sound, and everything else, at the station. He began editing the shows for me, and has been doing a great job! If anyone else out there has teenage sons, you might understand that this connection we have with each other is priceless. Normally, I can't get him to say more than two or three words to me. But when we're working together, he's  not my son anymore, he's my peer. He takes care of the technical end of things, and I handle the creative side. We work very well together, and I feel this bond is something we never would have had if it weren't for this show.

People are Watching!

I have been so excited to hear the feedback from others in my community, who have seen the show, and have been inspired to try some new art projects based on what they saw. It's quite amazing to have a complete stranger approach you with a smile and a hug...then sharing how much they were inspired.

So, after almost two years of broadcasting here in San Jose, I finally loaded a bunch of episodes onto a website called PEG Media, where public access stations across the country can view and download shows that are produced in other areas of the country. So far, about 22 stations have downloaded the show! But, this costs money for the stations, and many of them have no funding available. As producer, I have the option of providing the funds to the stations, through the website. This is where you come in. If I were to provide enough money for all stations to download 24 episodes, it would cost me over $50,000...which I do not have. So, most of the money I raise here will go towards funding the other public access stations so they can broadcast the show. Some of the money will go towards production costs.

Thanks for your help, and for reading all this...you made it to the end! Did you pledge yet??? What are you waiting for!

I am an Artist, TV producer, poet, creativity coach and self-expression facilitator. Completely self-taught! Grew up in NJ...ended up in San Jose, CA. Worked in the corporate world for 15 years...quit in 2009 when we moved to CA, rented a studio space "just for a few months until I find a "real" job." Three years later, I've become an artist/entrepreneur. I never thought I would have my own TV show, since I have no background in broadcasting...but thanks to having access to an amazing public access facility, I was able to make this happen. I am hoping to build on the momentum that has already begun...so please consider making a donation.

I was exposed to creating art from scraps as a child watching my grandfather make metal sculptures using scrap metal. Now it's my turn to make a positive impact on the environment! Thanks!
