Lorem Ipsum is producing Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera in Portland, Maine.

We're sure this will be a blast. You should help us make it happen.

This September, Lorem Ipsum will present The Threepenny Opera in a converted warehouse in Portland, Maine's industrial Bayside neighborhood. This hilarious and violent take on capitalism and human nature is Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's famous adaptation of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. Set on the streets of London in the days just before Queen Victoria's coronation, the play tells the the story of Mac the Knife, London's most notorious criminal, as he seduces the young Polly, daughter of Jonathan Peachum, the King of London's Beggars. Furious about Mac's arrogance, Peachum conspires to have Mac arrested and hung for his crimes. All of London's whores, thieves, and low lives get involved in this Marxist rant meet's low brow farce.

Collaborating with local independent gallery, The Apohadion Theater, Lorem Ipsum will be installing a fully immersive set designed by local instillation artist, Mariah Bergeron. The set intends to to draw the audience into the grimy and cutthroat world of panhandlers Brecht and Weill created for The Threepenny Opera. The cast is made up of many of Portland's finest actors and the band features some of the city's most talented and well known young musicians. With a cast of 14, a band of 10 and a full design team and crew, The Threepenny Opera is Lorem Ipsum's most ambitious project to date. We have already begun work on assembling this monumental production, but we need your help today to make this project a reality.
