      I appreciate your answer. There is some comfort in your awareness of the issues / shortcomings behind your product. As an avid customer of lomography.com please note that this has a direct reflection on your entire company, and line of products.

      So - I hope that the end of May (2 months after delivery) we will see a working a working Android app. A working scanner. I would hate to feel that the just over a 1/4 of a million dollars was diverted away from what really matters. Over 3500 backers, and countless other customers should feel that you have followed through on the project. That it has ended, ie. that they can use the reward product sufficiently. When was the last app update? According to Play.com: April 18, 2013. That is almost a month ago. Remember - transparency, follow through, good products = happy customers. Word of mouth, blogs, the net etc are powerful tools and they can help propel a company, and of course the opposite. I understand your issues and difficulties; and look forward to the next rendition of the Android app.

      My HTC Evo 4G was not compatible with the scanner app and could not download it. I have since upgraded to the HTC One and have been able to download the app but have not been able to use the app. The app doesn't appear to have the ability to make my camera focus.

      I look forward to trying the next version of the app when it is released for Android.

      Hi Francis and The JJ – We’re very sorry for the delay in getting the app to the stage we would love for it to be at. Unfortunately, we have run into some unforeseen issues whilst building both the IOS and Android versions and this put us behind schedule. We realize there are issues with both versions of the app and are keen to fix these as soon as we can. We went into this Kickstarter project fully behind the idea and still are. The app development was indeed one of the main reasons we started the Kickstarter campaign. But it was also the main problem we saw when we started. We don’t have much prior experience working on apps and unfortunately some issues have come up that we were not expecting. Please rest assured, we are really keen to make the app as awesome as it can be and are committed to doing this. Many thanks again for backing the project and we will keep working to improve the app.

      This project by Lomography was suspect from near the get go! Just a really deal - not in line with the true Kickstarter spirit. So lomography answered back. It said that that this endeavor was for the - app development and implementation. In essence the unit without the app is pretty useless.

      So the item was delivered - and 2 months later - coming into May - there is not strong app development - just a weak Android app that frustrates at best. The answer cannot be - "just use another app" - If my kickstarter money went "mainly" for app development - then get developing - because otherwise I own a plastic box.

      As far as I am concerned - this project never finished, and definitely has not delivered.
      Still waiting lomography, still waiting....

      Fabian - We are working on improving the panoramic function in the app - we realize that it needs work and are keen to release an updated version of the app as soon as possible so scanning panoramas becomes easier

      Paul - Many thanks for pointing out this Android app - we have tried it and think its great!

      Kevin - A first beta version of the Android app has gone online recently in the google play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details… - We are taking note of all the feedback we get on this version of the app and are working to improve it. In the meantime, we recommend using Helmut that Paul recommended, it seems to do a very nice job!

      My android (and yours as well probably) can invert photos natively. I've been able to use my scanner just fine. I do want the app, but don't make like you're unable to use the scanner.

      In case anyone else is still waiting for an android app to actually use your lomo film scanner for something other than a paperweight, check out the app called "Helmut" in the Google Play store. Its free and is available right now for scanning and inverting negatives with a lot of customization.

      For those who having cropped photos resolutions, you can remove the phone holder and scan your film. By placing your phone in landscape mode maximize your phone camera photo resolution.
      In fact, i use my tablet to scan my films. Bigger screens is easier to manage the editing part.

      Hi Ed, my quick fix just got published on the lomo site. Don't expect miracles, but so far it is working great for me, no vignetting and no corners getting blacked out, though just barely. Of course the results are still no match for a $500 flatbed! But of you want to blow up your image, you'll get a bit more detail with the extra lens.

      Sandra, I'm totally with you in regards to that one of the main limiting factors being the focus distance. At the iPhone's closest focusing distance the longest edge of the film will always be shorter than the iphone's shortest edge. So it doesn't matter how it is oriented. Agreed.

      The easy fix you suggested is not so great unfortunately. The close up filter only helps so much. All these things do is allow you to get closer to the image, which would be great if there wasn't that deep ring that the iphone had to shoot through which will vignette like crazy. Like you said, it's a tight fit. From my tests, the circle is just touching each corner of the film frame. So at best you're still stuck shooting something horizontal with a vertical sensor.

      The reason i suggest some kind of complex zooming macro lens contraption is because of the limitations of the lomoscanner. With the camera further back, you could use something with a longer focal length that has a reproduction rate of 1:1, then you wouldn't have to worry about the vignetting created by the deep hole you have to shoot through.

      So after this focusing and vignetting is figured out quickly by someone smarter than me, we'll always be stuck with this vertical shooting something horizontal thing.

      By the way, have you ever watched an iphone video shot vertically on a standard wide screen tv. Drives me nuts.

      Just sayin.

      Hi Ed, I didn't mean to argue :-). I agree the scans don't even get close to the largest size you could get from your iphone. The limiting factor is the focussing distance of the phone, not so much the orientation of the scanner. There is an easy fix, very easy. Just change out the black foam ring for a 37mm close up filter, fits perfectly, and lets you get closer. I use a +10 diopter and 1 stacker with an iphone 4S. Still no need to turn my phone 90 degrees as the image still fits, though it is tight.

      Sandra, my main point was that the largest useable image that can come out of the iPhone 5 with the Lomoscanner is 1492x1279 with all the cropping. This is about 1/4 the size of a full size iphone 5 picture. That sounds like a ton of real estate lost. Don't you agree?

      And the two reasons we lose all that space are explained below. A zooming macro lens, and rotating the iphone 90 degrees would remedy all this probably, but I'd say it goes beyond the scope of this lomo toy.

      hi guys, I have used it on iPhone 5 with the similar results as Ed and Bobby described, It seems like an awfull lot of frame is wasted compere to what you can get of that camera. I have tried it on my wife's iPhone 4 and it seems like the negative is covering more of the frame but you still have to crop to get a full negative frame which is not great as well. The results are poor. I would really like the "scans" to be as good as the iPhone 5 camera can give, but I'm really disapointed at the moment.

      @Bobby - If you don't mind doing the editing in photoshop, try using a different camera app. The best results I got so far are with PureShot. Lets you save in dRAW tiff format, resulting in higher quality images to work with.

      Bobby, at least a couple things make the "scans" not as great as a normal picture taken from your iPhone 5. 1) The lomoscanner is basically taking a vertical shot of a horizontal negative, so some real estate is lost there. 2) I'm using two stackers because that's the closest I could get to the film where the iPhone 5 could actually focus. One stacker allowed me to fill the frame better, but the camera wouldn't focus that close. So with 2 stackers, you're further back from the negative. In the end, while cropping to the sprockets, the final image is 1492x1279 reduced from the original 2448x3264 iPhone 5 resolution.

      Geez, folks -- what am I missing? Everything I try to scan is **incredibly** low res and intensely 'grainy' (and I'm using an iPhone 5) to the point where the shots are so heavily pointillized that I almost can't recognize faces. I'm a photographer and a tech kinda guy, so it seems this shouldn't be TOO hard, right? The camera takes wonderful shots otherwise, so I know it's not the camera. I'm now using the app, but that doesn't seem to help. I've tried 2 and 3 stacks; still unusable. I really want this to work, and it seems as though some folks are getting truly great results. Please advise if you would. Thanks!

      Basically the best app to use is Photoshop Touch. Use the invert function and adjust levels, usually +25 red, minus 25 blue and green. Hope this helps.

You will visit a traditional Viennese market to search for negatives, spend time at Lomography HQ and build your very own LomoWall. Then we will fly you to Moscow for a trip back to the roots of Lomography accompanied by one of the Lomography founders who'll show you Russia through their eyes. We'll arrange 5 nights in a hotel for you. In Moscow, you will spend 2 days with a special Lomography program and we will organize trips for you to meet some amazing contemporary Russian artists.
