After producing our documentary film last semester, we want to take it on the road, competing in festivals and screening it publicly!
After the success of producing our documentary film last fall semester, we now want to spread its word around the country, competing in film festivals and hosting public screenings at community centers to encourage more dialogue about this time in Florida's history.
This Kickstarter campaign will help us fund the finances necessary to do so. This semester, we're focusing on the second phase of our project: promotion and the online installation. A good portion of these funds will go into our website, from its design, graphics, and server/domain space to new content, full transcripts, buying new photographs, and more.
We're also going to take some of the un-edited leftover footage that didn't make it into the film (including unreleased interviews) and cut them into special, online-only companion featurettes to help expand and tell more of the story.
This site will hopefully be used as a pedagogical tool for classroom discussions and LGBT community outreach to teach others about this dark period of government-sponsored repression in Florida.
Finally, we plan on submitting the now-finished documentary to a number of film festivals throughout the upcoming months, trying to get more awareness of it and hopefully bring some new recognition to the topic. We've already submitted to the Collegiate Television Awards and the National Association of Broadcasters competitions; we're also going to present the film at the Southeastern Regional Honors Conference in Tampa, FL in March and publicly screen it in Gainesville in February. Funds will help make more festival submissions and public screenings possible!
