About this project

LISTEN UP!

I'm entering my comedy pilot, Killing Time with LIzzie Boredom, in the New York Television Festival's Pilot Competition, and I need your help! If I can raise $6,000 in pledges before January 5th, I can shoot Killing Time with a high production value. However, if the pledges don't add up to $6,000, then you don't get charged, and I don't get anything. That's right, it's all or nothing. Stakes are high. If you believe in this project, like I do, please donate as much as you can, and share this link with others!

ABOUT THE SHOW

Killing Time with Lizzie Boredom is an absurd sitcom about a young woman's attempt to become a celebrity. Ironically, she is also an agoraphobic hypochondriac. Inspired by the self-deprecating comedy of performers like Maria Bamford and Eugene Mirman, similar to the grotesque humor of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, and riddled with Buster Keaton-style physical comedy, Killing Time will investigate the desire for fame as a coping mechanism for dealing with our own mortality.

SYNOPSIS

Lizzie Boredom leads two opposing lives, and each episode criss-crosses between them. Lizzie's mundane and morbid home life depicts her as she battles her own mania: her inability to leave the house, her fear of mortality and her tendency to overeat. Lizzie escapes these demons by jumping into an over-the-top imaginary life where she acts out familiar scenes that mock typical television tropes.

WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE

Killing Time is a story about American culture in the information age. It questions our narcissistic use of technology as a way to achieve notoriety and, in a sense, immortality. At its core, it gives exposure to the modern-day existential crisis.

With your pledge, I can hire a professional crew to shoot a high-quality pilot.  Upon completion, this pilot will be entered in the New York Television Festival Pilot Competition and pitched to networks like Comedy Central and Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim".

By supporting this project, you will be helping pay for costs incurred during a three-day shoot (professional production crew salaries, props, equipment rental, and location costs).

ABOUT LIZZIE

Lizzie Boredom is a character that I've been loosely developing for a couple years. A close friend once told me, "she is all of your worst qualities, and none of the good ones."

I have been working on film and video projects since I was 14, working mostly in experimental and documentary cinema. I've always been a fan of dark comedy, so now I am attempting to bring these production techniques to a new genre.

In recent years, I have worked as an educator and a film editor. I am currently the Head of Development at Hard Working Movies and spend my free time frequenting creative events in New York and beyond.

Connected as Elizabeth Jane Theis (1115 friends)

Elizabeth Theis is a filmmaker and weirdo living in Brooklyn, NY. She has been making films since she was 14 years old and has an extensive background in film production and education. She is the Head of Development at Hard Working Movies in DUMBO, Brooklyn. While most of her film and video projects have been experimental and documentary projects, she is currently exploring narrative cinema and comedic television. She is very, very hilarious. Trust me.
