Why, hello! Welcome to my Kickstarter page! I’m Liza Day. I’m a flight attendant and a musician. I’ve been writing music and playing with my band for the last 5 years in the Chicago area. It’s been 4 years since I have released new music. This past October my band and I had an opportunity to record in Nashville at Smoakstack Studios (with the help of our friend Justin March) where we were able to record a 6 song EP, “One For Courage”. We are extremely excited about this.
With our last record we took the time to raise the funding and complete everything on our own before releasing it to you. This time we’d like to do something different. We’d like you to be a part of our new release. Why? Well, because we want to do this together…and it’s not fun doing things alone.
For those of you unfamiliar with the procedure/expenditures of releasing a record I would love to fill you in…
Here we go: Recording is expensive! Paying for studio time, mixing and mastering done by professionals adds up quickly. Between that, travel expenses, graphic design, paying musicians etc. thousands of dollars have already been spent to get here but it's not over!
Although the audio is completely finalized and paid for, it’s going to cost an additional $3,500 to turn this into a finished physical product for you and others to experience. Here’s how that breaks down:
10% to Kickstarter/Amazon fees: $350
Postage (mailing things to you): $200
Printing/duplicating CD’s and Vinyl: $2,600 (done by the fine folks at http://www.furnacemfg.com check ‘em out!)
Graphic design: $350
This is where YOU come in! By pledging money you can help fund the release of our EP and in return get the finished product as well as some other cool bonus items.
We’ve arranged the pledge levels so that you can give as little or as much as you want and be able select the Liza Day package that fits you best. So go crazy! As always, we truly appreciate you and thank you for your support!
*Sidenote: Why not just release it digitally? Good Question. Authenticity and quality are my overall goals for this project and I don’t feel like those goals can be achieved with just a digital release. And, I’m old school. I do, however realize it’s the most accessible way to experience music these days. That is why we’ll be releasing our new 6 song EP on vinyl, compact disc and in digital format so that YOU can decide how you want to experience “One For Courage”.
