About this project
Viking Mill, Little Berlin and Emerald St Urban Farm aim to create a collaborative community creative art space landscaped with edible foods on a vacant lot in East Kensington, Philadelphia.
In addition to transforming an unused lot into a beautiful place it will serve as a resource for community events, fleas markets and ‘pick your own’ harvests of fresh produce. Most importantly it will be a positive space that will bring the neighborhood together through art and food!
The collaborative efforts of Emerald St. Urban Farm, Little Berlin and the Viking Mill will contribute to the expansion of each organization’s mission by further building upon our relationship between Philadelphia’s active, creative community and the neighborhood around us.
This is a program and a place where creative, community based projects can be developed in an effort to foster a rigorous engagement with every aspect of life.

THE PLAN:
Our team is composed of a number of talented folks, including urban farmers, landscape architects, community organizers and artists. We have a number of working plans for the space, and will be continuing to develop a 4-year vision for the project.
Some features we're scheming include:
- Blueberry Patch, with pick-your-own harvests
- Herb Spiral, and footpaths
- Hardscaping at the street entrance to welcome people into the space
- A custom iron gate is being installed by artist Bill Capazoli
- Community Space/Event Space
- Toolshed
- Shelter
- Ornamental Flowers
- Hops Vines on lattice to create 'rooms' in the plot of land

The Kickstarter Platform will determine how much of this we can build how quickly. The project will unfold over a 4-year period, according to the overall vision that is still being developed by our team.

Resources:
Contribute materials, or other physical resources and services to help further the overall 4-year development plan. Resources can also be volunteer hours, clean-up, plant watering, and more. We will need many neighborhood hands to help build this space!
Projects:
Propose a project or performance to occur in the space. Proposals should have a tie to the overall vision for the space, and need to include resources to realize the project. little berlin and ESUF will evaluate proposals on a seasonal cycle.
