About this project
The Lisa Marshall Band wants to get their first CD finished; recorded, mixed, mastered and duplicated and in to the hands who dig it! We already have the basic tracks which are drums, bass, rhythm guitar, and some lead guitar.
Early Soul/R&B has always inspired hope and a "feel good"-ness for me. It's why I love to play it!! I hope to continue the good vibes and spread the love! Thank you for coming here and picking up a pre-sale of the CD and other deals we are offering. Every bit gets us to documenting the music on to disc, putting our art to canvas, so to speak. Without you, we don't know how we would have done it. You rock!!!
In the spirit of grass roots effort, we come here to Kickstarter offering pre-sales of the CD, and lots of other goodies in appreciation and gratitude to those who donate. We have package deals and are offering everything from a signed copy of the CD, to private house concerts, hand written lyric sheets, behind the scene video, and some things that will only be offered here, and not to the general public. (like a copy of songs recorded in their conception) and more!Anything over the $5,000 will go toward promoting the CD by hiring a publicist or radio promoter.
The money raised here will go to studio time; recording the lead vocals, horns, piano, etc. Mixing each song. (We'll be working with Eric Johnson's sound engineer) Mastering- the process that makes the music we listen to sound nice and consistent ( we plan to go to Jerry Tubbs here in Austin- this is a pretty important step, so we want to make sure we have one of the best! His studio has mastered CDs for Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marcia Ball, and more) Duplication of the CD- so we can get you those signed copies. Graphic design of the CD- so you have something to look at while your listening. Promotion- any over and beyond our target goal will go toward promoting the CD and merch. Promo for postage, envelopes and/or a promotional company to get the music to as much radio and press as possible. "Create the buzz" as they say in the biz. But, more than this, we will continue a style of music that has always inspired happiness, hope and unity! That's what I hope, any way :)

The Lisa Marshall Band is a classic Rhythm & Blues, Soul band, with songwriting heavily influenced by Stax, Chess, and the days of classic Soul. Inspired by Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples to name a few. I, (Lisa Marshall), have always loved the the strong vocal stylings and music of the women of the classic R&B sound. The music moves and fills me with hope and makes me feel happy!
The day I saw Mavis Staples pay tribute to Mahalia Jackson in Seattle, WA., I knew that I wanted to be a part of such goodness. She gave so much love and goodness that day that I was moved to tears. Everyone there was. It was positive and uplifting, and if I can put a tenth of what she did in to the songs I write, maybe I can help shift some things too.

Mary Harsh on Bass; who studied with Chuck Rainey (Rock Steady-Aretha Frankiln), and was personally invited to attend Victor Whooten’s bass camp this year. Russell Scanlon on Guitar; “Scanlon, usually seen with the Samba Police, made yet another case for designation as one of the city's most eclectic enlightened guitar heroes." -Michael Point, Austin American Statesman. Russ has performed with The Austin symphony, Bernadette Peters, Martha and the Vandellas, and more. Johnny Radelat on Drums; He also plays with one of Austin’s funk favorites, The Greyhounds, Gary Clark Jr., and Don Chani.
The basic tracks of this CD were recorded in the multi tracking tradition of the early days...everyone at once. Now we embark on the arrangements of three part ‘Sweet Inspirations’ influenced harmonies, horns, percussion, strings, and plan to release it on CD and eventually on vinyl, as well as singles a month.
I am originally from Virginia Beach, VA. I was brought up on, The Beatles, Blues, Elvis and Motown.
I moved to California at age 21 and fronted a British Rock influenced band called Peculiar Boogie. We got to open for Koko Taylor, Robben Ford, Big Brother & The Holding Co., to name a few. After being there over 10 years , I went north to Seattle, WA. for a spell where I often performed with my semi-hollow body electric guitar, and the raucous, funky three part call-and-answer trio, The Dirty Girls! My first solo CD titled ‘Simple’ was released in May of 2008. Our group was invited to the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN. as the feature for The Sunday ‘Songwriter’s Spotlight’. ‘Simple‘ can be heard in regular rotation on KOOP, KAZI ;Austin, TX., WWOZ; New Orleans, LA. and various radio in Europe as well as making it on to 2 Top 5 Euro-Americana Charts!
The Lisa Marshall Band has been together in Austin, TX. for a year and a half. We worked very hard and recently got the opportunity to play at Antone's with Patrice Pike, and The Coveters. Our first Saxon Pub show is this Friday! We also have been working to establish ourselves throughout the Southeast in anticipation of this CD!
We are a high energy band with a very sincere appreciation for the audience.
