Update #15 · Oct 25, 2012 · 107 comments

Hi folks,

The day we've all been looking forward to for a longtime has arrived!

After an epic journey, Luke has achieved a lot, and for those that have been following the travel blog we hope it's been a good insight into the whole process, and how to tackle the issues that arise

In short; you should all be receiving your ScanBoxes in the next week or two (maybe sooner!) as they're bagged, labelled, shipped and out the door!

Here's an email I traded with Luke just this morning; as after reading the travel blog I wanted to know our exact status;

"Yep. Bagged, Labelled, Tracking numbers. They are packing and sending them right now. The retail packaged ones will be tomorrow or Friday as the bags they sent were too small to fit 10 units and 30 units. I'm waiting to get tracking number database from the logistics company over here but that will be in the next few days. I'm actually writing up the post with pics etc right now. I'll send it through."

So, as you can see all but the retail ones are being sent as we speak, and the rest out by Friday! To say this is exciting, and a relief is a giant understatement.

For those of you that've followed Luke's progress via the Travel Blog, you'll see he's been working extremely hard to make this happen, and we're really proud of the work he's done.

The trip hasn't been without it's hurdles but we couldn't be happier with end result! ScanBox is on it's way, and it's a proud day for us all here and we can't wait for your feedback!

Luke will send you your tracking number in the coming days, and one final reminder about change of address, please direct message us if you have changed address recently :)

From the team, it's a huge thanks from us, and for helping bring this to life. The next challenge will be getting ScanBox into stores, and out into the wider world, so we'll share some news of that as things progress.

Nearing completion. Here's Luke's latest news.

Update #14 · Oct 19, 2012 · 6 comments

Hi folks, another quick update and some info from Luke as he continues his trip, and an interesting update on the product itself. A quick excerpt from Luke below, with full details and some other recent posts over at http://scanboxtravel.wordpress.com.

Some thoughts from Luke on the product...

• Firstly the print quality is amazing – the colors are extremely sharp and vibrant far better than I had hoped.

• I haven’t mentioned this before but in the end I decided to go for a slightly higher grade of card (600gsm for those of you who know what that is) and it really shows. This extra thickness allowed us to insert the magnets completely in the card and not require small black stickers (like the prototype did). This resulted in the boxes being slightly heaver but they feel far more solid and durable.

• The first time you use your Scanbox the sides may seem to be bent, but they are not. You simply need to take a moment to fold the flaps back on themselves and then everything will go together perfectly. Please see attached photos if your unsure what I mean.

• Finally (and please don’t try this at home) but because of the laminated coating the boxes retain a small amount of water resistance (I found this out by accident when I knocked my cup of water over)… so thats handy

And Delivery...

Production will wrap up over the weekend and final quality inspection will occur. Our distribution company is ready to pick up the boxed units and ship them directly to you.

I will have a huge list of tracking numbers for every backer so please be patient as I compile the list into a database that is useable / searchable.

And from us.

We'll keep you updated as more unfolds (no pun intended), and Luke finishes his big trip. Suffice to say we're rapt with his efforts thus far, and will be back with another post soon!

Luke's in Hong Kong

Update #12 · Oct 11, 2012 · 20 comments

We trust you’re all well, and thanks for your patience between updates. As you’ve seen in the previous update Scanbox is on the production line and will be with you very shortly.

We did want to keep you up to date with two developments, as our man on the ground Luke is in Hong Kong right now. When Luke landed he’s learned two things.

The first was that the Chinese “Golden Week” caused a bump in the road we weren’t expecting. This week has had a big effect on China, and Chinese factory output. It’s a fabulous week of color, and festivity and a week the country should be very proud of, it’s just been a little tricky for us to wait with baited breath for Scanbox to finish rolling off the production line during this week.

So, whilst it’s with a sincere apology, we hope you’ll be understanding that the Scanbox is beginning to ship a tiny bit later than expected with the factory giving us a new delivery date of October 15, which Luke will be there for, shipping labels in hand.

The second, is to keep everyone 100% up-to-date and to give a little bit of insight into Luke’s journey as he makes the trip from Hong Kong to Shenzhen we thought it was worth sharing his travel blog with you. http://scanboxtravel.wordpress.com/

We want to do this for two reasons

(1) we want to have full transparency around the production process and give our backers a clear picture into the world he’ll be operating in over the next week.

(2) we thought inviting you on this journey would be interesting for any aspiring inventors, product people or just anyone that wants to get a birds eye view of how this whole process works.

We hope its’ an interesting read and we feel as backers and supporters of the Scanbox you’ll appreciate this window into the process.

Thanks again for all your support, and please get in touch if you have any change of address details.

Feel free to comment away on Luke’s travel blog as he goes along, give him some encouragement (he’s feeling the pressure :), and if you know the area any travel tips or hints, he’ll really appreciate it.

Also too, we'll post another update Monday with more specifics once Luke arrives at the factory.
