About this project
As you may or may not be aware, I've been writing speculative fiction since 2006. In those five years, I have yet to have an event in my hometown, Rochester NY. I planned a six-stop book tour while deployed to the Middle East, but a return to my roots with my work tucked under my arm has evaded me thus far. I can blame a little of it on the Army, but not all of it. At any rate, an event in Rochester will mean a great deal to me. I left home for good in 2000, a 113-lb. nerd with a GED, and have only been back intermittently since. In the past decade I’ve done things anyone would be proud to have accomplished, no matter their roots. I want to share them with people who knew me “way back when,” and make new fans in my old stomping grounds.
Next March, an anthology of superhero fiction that I'm editing will be released along with an anthology from a major publisher featuring my short work. This means that next April will be the perfect time to come back to Rochester and show the home team what I've done. My plan is to raise $1000 through Kickstarter, a website that allows me to accept donations from contributors and reward those contributors with gifts. These funds will pay for my plane ticket, hotel room and rental car, plus food and copies of my books. I will arrange bookstore signings on Saturday and Sunday afternoon to meet the public (dates TBD) with a room party on Saturday night.
How can you help? I’m glad you asked. You can share this page, and the direct link to the project’s Kickstarter page, on your social networks, blogs and websites. You can also contribute money towards the $1000 expense budget. Even if you’re nowhere near Rochester, NY, I’ve structured the incentive package so that every level of contribution is rewarded with something awesome that is not location-dependent.
