First of all, I want to thank all of you again who have helped me out over the past week and a half with contributions, retweets on twitter and reposts on facebook. You straight up are the reason that we reached the $500 mark in less than 24 hours, and also the reason that we’re sitting at $1305 at the end of day 11.
So some of you might have heard that I’ve been getting quotes back from printers this week. So far I’ve gotten about 3 back. I went ahead and figured out what it would cost to print 400 books as opposed to 200, at 48 pages instead of 40 with a high quality cardstock cover. The verdict: we have EXACTLY enough money to make this happen with what is in the Kickstarter fund right now which is rather exciting.
“What does this mean?” you might ask. Well, it means a couple of things. Firstly, it means that all of you who already backed me would be getting the highest quality book possible. The cardstock cover will allow you to put a few more miles on it without it falling apart on you, as well as make it feel more substantial like a true book as opposed to just a floppy periodical.
“What about the extra 8 pages Chris?”
Well, about that. I’m actually working on another story right now called "01-AD GO!". I haven’t talked about it much but I’ve been spending a lot of my time working on it to get it ready to take with me to my residency later this year in October to work on. I’d like to put a three or four page preview of that in the book for you guys as well. Then there’s the Creatives page. I’d like to have a page that is just dedicated to my friends/backers who are doing creative stuff. So if you’re a writer, an artist, a film maker or anything else that involves the creation of art, and you have an online presence somewhere, I’d like to put it on the list. Online presence meaning website, facebook, twitter, whatever or where ever people might be able to see your work and contact you.
The way I figure it, even if only a few hundred people read VOLUME ONE, that’s a few hundred chances that some of you could get your work out too, and obviously the more we print, the better those chances are. I’ve realized recently that I know so MANY people who are doing really great work here in Boise and around the world, and since I’ve been given the chance to get my stuff out with Kickstarter, I’d like to help you out too.
So for one, I’d be curious to hear what you guys think about this. Would you be someone interested in contributing to the list? Secondly, if we do this, we’d have to shoot for a goal above where we’re at now. Since it would take everything that has been raised so far to print the books, there’s no wiggle room for shipping to all of you outside of Boise, ESPECIALLY my European backers. If we do this, we’d need to raise about another $400 bringing the total to $1700 by September 9th, the last day of VOLUME ONE’s Kickstarter campaign.
If we can’t do it, I for one will still be VERY happy. It’ll just be the VOLUME ONE first envisioned with the two stories and a little higher quality than originally planned and about an extra hundred books than originally planned as opposed to two hundred. Still better than I anticipated and something I am incredibly grateful for. I really want to hear what you all think about this. It just seems like this is a chance to take something that was just a dream of mine and turn VOLUME ONE into something even better than what I had planned, and celebrate the truly unique experience that we’ve all come to share, essentially making it a product of that.
Again, thank you so much for what you’ve all done so far. I can’t reiterate that this has really been one of the best experiences of my life. It has been such a relief to find out that so many people support what I’m doing. If this Round 2 plan sounds good to you, then let’s repost and retweet this thing to the max. I really think we can do this. Let’s take VOLUME ONE all the way to the next level.
