"Starting from Scratch" is a documentary revolving around the average 'Joe' and his quest to start a small business.
Starting a small business can be frustrating and intimidating to say the least; you have to come up with a product or a service, capital for funding everything, you have to gain customers or clientele, run through the gauntlet of paperwork and hope that everything pays out in the end.
"Starting from Scratch" is a documentary showing the true struggle of the 'average Joe' attempting to start a small business with nothing but an idea and a hope. We will follow our own Matt Adkins (Army Veteran turned independent film maker) on his quest to start his own business (teaching tactical weapons instruction to military and police personnel).
"I have all of this knowledge from different courses that I took while in the military; I did everything I could to learn as much as I can...sad thing is, I see too many of these guys (the ones who are here to protect us) making stupid mistakes. I want to change this." This is a quote from an interview with Matt Adkins during filming for this documentary. "I just want to make things right."
OUR GOAL FOR THE DOCUMENTARY
Simply put, we want to get this documentary out to as many people as possible. It is a film with a universal message of hope and self-belief, taking place in the world of small business but carrying over into all facets of life. We think it is a story that will inspire those who see it. In today's new distribution environment for independent films, filmmakers can take an active role in distributing their films. We will explore all distribution options.
Kickstarter is the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world. Every month tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, art, film, technology, design, food, and other creative fields. Every Kickstarter project must be fully funded before its time expires.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON’T REACH OUT GOAL
If we don't raise our goal, we don't get anything. Donors pledge the amounts, but don't actually pay until the goal is reached and the funding deadline has passed. We want to avoid this so please spread the word. Everything helps! When we meet our goal we will continue production, editing and distribution so that we can send you the DVDs and merchandise as soon as possible.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This film is only going to be possible with the help of you (entrepreneurs, independent film fans, and anyone who loves a positive, inspiring story). We want this to be your film just as much as it is ours. The more people who Participate the more chance we have of getting the story out. To help out please Twitter it, "Like" us on Facebook, email this Kickstarter link and let your friends, relatives, supporter groups, and co-workers know about the film and this campaign. We would love for people to get involved on a local level. Email email@example.com to get more information and become involved.
Whether its $1 or $100, any amount of money can help this documentary become a reality. Funding this project will help in many different aspects of our production:
- Producing - Donating 20 dollars pays for transportation of an crew member. Give 50 and you just fed the crew a meal. Small expenses add up when you're tending to a permits and crew. Donations take a lot of weight off of our shoulders.
- Equipment - While we're the ones making the film, you're the ones who will watch it. Why not help make it look good? Cameras are only as good as the lenses you put on them. And lenses can get expensive. So its simple; the more donations we receive, the higher quality of a film you will get. Lighting rigs and microphones can be just as expensive.
- Post Production - Color correction, 3D CGI Animations, sound production, film festivals -- they all cost money. Even after the film is shot there's room for donations.
- Marketing and Distribution - The ability to inspire others to follow their dream is a task in of itself, distribution and marketing makes it a possibility to reach those viewers and to help them 'see the light'.
