Update #8: Progress!
The books came in the mail! They look amazing. Now we are finishing them up with some lovely hand made centerfolds ;)
Here is a flyer for the party & some photos of us screen-printing T'shirts and tote bags!
Update #7: We Love Bed Stuy!
Hi All,
We thought we would write another update because, it's been a while and WHY NOT!?
The book is coming along well and so is the map. We are getting more and more pumped for the party as November 12th approaches! At this point the book is about 75% complete - the photos of businesses have been taken, our write ups are being proofread a million times, and the layout is almost complete! We are extremely proud of the progress and can't wait to send the book out to print in a little over a week. The digital map is progressing rapidly as well. The design is looking nice and our lovely graphics department (Tayef) will be building it in flash over the next couple weeks :)
Your rewards are also in development and we are excited to hand them out at the party!
Anyway, to hold us over until the book arrives in the mail, I have attached a couple images of two of our favorite Bed Stuy businesses, Peaches Hot House and Black Swan!
Update #6: THANK YOU!!!!
Our fund-raising is officially over! TIME FOR US TO GET TO WORK!
We will be keeping you all up to date as we progress with the book, map, and party. Thanks so much to everyone who helped us out!
Update #5: Photography Competition - Call for Entries
Want to get even more involved in the project, or know a photographer friend who might?!
Competition Brief: Because Built & Branded focuses on discovering new things within our Central Brooklyn community, we thought “Unnoticed Beauty” might be an interesting theme for a the photography competition. The five specific neighborhoods we are focusing on through out the project are, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, and Fort Green. Each photograph must be taken within one of these five Brooklyn neighborhoods. Two photographs from each neighborhood will be selected to become a part of the Built & Branded project. The selected photography will be published in the book, the digital map, and the post card set, they will also be exhibited at the party. What is the most beautiful place in Crown Heights? What was that intriguing thing you noticed on the street in Fort Greene? SHOW US! Please feel free to email us with any questions you may have, we are excited to see what you come up with!

Lana is an architectural designer interested in the communicative power of design. Her work explores the stories a product or piece of architecture tells to the public. She has always believed that these stories can be found hidden within the details, leading her into extensive professional experience in facade design and technical envelope detailing. From lighting to furniture, apartments to opera houses, Lana uses texture, materiality, and technical connections to push the linguistic attributes of the built environment.
I'm impressed!
