About this project

Producer Steve Olivera and I are using Kickstarter.com to raise necessary Development Funds for my feature film directorial debut, GRASS STAINS.

We've been working with two very talented and accredited casting directors since November who have signed onto the project due to their love of the material. Now, Steve and I are headed out to Los Angeles on February 22nd for casting sessions that will help solidify our cast which in turn will bring financing to make GRASS STAINS a reality. Top level talent has already expressed serious interest in one of the main roles and a handful of production companies are considering co-financing the film. But these casting sessions will absolutely bring the entire project to the next level. With our casting directors already having devoted themselves to the project for next to nothing, the minimum $3000 we are hoping to raise will allow us to pay them during these casting sessions and will go towards further expenses like audition space, air fare, and a variety of other costs we've already emptied our pockets to pay.

But what is GRASS STAINS about?

GRASS STAINS is a coming of age drama about Conrad Stevens, a fifteen year old teenage boy growing up in small town America. When an innocent prank leads to the accidental death of the older brother of Conrad's first girlfriend, Grace Turner -- Conrad and his two best friends leave the scene of the accident to try and flee their responsibility. But when they do just that, Conrad is racked with guilt and throws himself in the middle of Grace's mourning family in an attempt to make up for everything he's done wrong. But soon he finds each family member avoiding their loss in a different way -- most particularly Grace who has placed all of her focus, both emotionally and physically, on her fast blooming relationship with Conrad. Now Conrad must struggle with the truth as he tries to balance his responsibility with his growing desire for young love.

The script for GRASS STAINS received the highest honor of Faculty Selects from Columbia University's Graduate MFA Film Program in 2007 and went on to be a top five finalist in the 2007 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition.
