Kickstarter

In January 2011, I moved from Seattle to Greece in order to do something with my hands--to feel the earth, to watch things in which I had placed so much care and regard grow and transform. As a photographer, toting a camera along was not in question. Throughout my six months of traveling, I made over 1,000 film images with my trusty Yashica Mat camera and I am itching to have them developed and printed. Again, to have something I cherish in my hands.

For those six months, I slept in dilapidated barns, tents among cows, a century old Irish cottage, drank fresh hand pumped spring water, ate the food that I had sown and harvested, made Greek moonshine, heated shower water with a fire I had to learn to make, swam in the Aegean Sea with a full moon, and learned more than I can ever say. I'm so grateful to have been able to go on a journey like this, and I want to share these moments with you.

I photographed, traveled and farmed throughout Greece, Ireland, Belgium, Amsterdam, Germany, Finland and Italy. To protect my film, whenever I had photographed around 30 rolls of film I would ship them back to Seattle for safekeeping. When I returned home, I found out that my 31 rolls of film I had shipped from Finland had been lost "somewhere between Finland and Seattle." Completely distraught, I felt as if I couldn't go forward with this project because I had lost something profoundly meaningful to me. Six months later, the film surprisingly arrived! I had all 70 rolls in my grasp!

With your generous support, I'll be able to develop and hand print these photographs. The funds will go towards the cost to develop the film, photographic paper and other supplies, as well as the lab time. My goal of $1,800 budgets for all of this, with around 40 hours of lab time. The more money that is donated, the longer I'll be able to meddle in the darkroom. Kickstarter has an 'all or nothing' policy--meaning if I don't reach my goal of $1,800, unfortunately I wont be able to hand print these images, and only a few people will be able to enjoy them (hi mom and dad!).
