An intense look into one man's mind... An agoraphobic nightmare that demands more than one viewing.
We need $40,000 to cover the cost of a THREE WEEK run of "INSIDE IRVIN" (Nov 2012 or March 2013). This includes theater rental (270 seats, preferably at the Lyceum Space Theater located in San Diego, CA), rehearsal space, 10 actors (5 primaries plus their understudies), one music director, original music, stage manager, technical director, costume, lighting, sound, two story set design, marketing and press. We will be inviting investors, Broadway and Los Angeles producers to this three week run so they can evaluate us for a bigger commitment on their part. The Writer/Director, and the Producer will take no up-front salary.
“Inside Irvin”, a psychological drama, is a compelling character study into the fragility of the human psyche. This stage play was originally a film written by Kimberly Seilhamer, who will be adapting this project for the theater. The film garnered many kudos and we’re confident the stage play will also turn the heads of fans and critics alike. Here’s what some people have to say about the film:
“**** A creepy and bizarre, complex and multi-layered masterpiece depicting the depth of one man’s mental illness. Evocative of Hitchcock, Cronenberg, and Lynch. This is a crafty film, demanding more than one viewing.” ~ Todd David Schwartz, CBS RADIO
“A real claustrophobic nightmare that will leave you unhinged.” ~ Roger M. Mayer, SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
A young couple, phobics that fear the outdoors and one of which is mentally ill, struggle to coexist with each other while they attempt to overcome their fears.
Irvin and Ida Walter live each day within the confines of their Los Angeles home.
Ida, who longs for the return of her father, lives in denial of her phobia. She finds comfort in compulsive catalog shopping as she springs from holiday to holiday in any attempt to make one day different from the next. Her active imagination breathes life into the world in which they live. She yearns for her idea of a normal existence, a life with the Delivery Man, and keeps her bag packed, ready for the day when Father will return and she will venture outside.
Irvin accepts his limitations, but still suffers from suicidal tendencies. Thus far, each of Irvin’s attempts to take his own life has failed miserably and he continues to be frustrated by his ineptitude. His schizophrenic personality reincarnates the past, complete with the Mother he yearns for and his seven-year-old self, who eventually becomes a companion. His tortured existence poses a stark contrast to Ida’s bubbly optimism. Even as Irvin fills various roles in Ida’s fantasies, he struggles with his own skewed sense of reality. Although Irvin suffers from his own private delusions, he remains cognizant of Ida’s need to be free.
She succeeds… and it turns out to be a most memorable day after all – one that changes their lives forever.
Kimberly Seilhamer and Sheila Havens Ryle met in May of 2009 through a mutual friend. With Kimberly’s background in film and Sheila’s background in theater, the two became fast friends. When Kimberly decided to produce INSIDE IRVIN, the play, she knew that Sheila was just the right creative partner for the job. Together, they are working diligently to develop this provocative project to its full potential. Their goal is to produce a successful show that will find it’s way to Broadway. The staging of this ambitious three week run in one of San Diego’s prestigious theaters will help Inside Irvin find it’s way to other, larger venues. This will be the first opportunity for the public and some of Broadway and Los Angeles’ producers to experience the show.
Kimberly Seilhamer (Writer, Director, Producer, Lyrics) is an award winning feature screenwriter and director. Her directorial debut, JACK THE REAPER, took top honors as BEST HORROR / SCIFI film at last years Cannes Independent Film Festival in France. Kimberly also penned the award winning script. With three produced feature credits, including INSIDE IRVIN the feature film, under her belt ~ Kimberly looks forward to setting her sights to the stage. “When I wrote the screenplay for Inside Irvin, I knew it would make a compelling stage play. I retained the play rights to the project with the stipulation that I couldn’t produce it for 5 years. I’m excited that I’m finally able to bring this project to fruition in my own right and am confident that fans of the film will also be fans of the play.”
The feature film found critical acclaim. Says Todd David Schwartz from CBS Radio of the film, “A creepy and bizarre, complex and multi-layered masterpiece depicting the depth f one man’s mental illness. Evocative of Hitchcock, Cronenbeg, and Lynch. This is a crafty film, demanding more than one viewing.” Another vote of confidence comes from Roger M. Mayer of Sundance Film Festival, “A real claustrophobic nightmare that will leave you unhinged.”
Kimberly’s experience is not limited to film. As a former Marine, her “ain’t no mountain high enough” attitude gets things done efficiently. She also possesses incredible attention to detail which will undoubtedly prove to be an asset when it comes to this production. Kimberly has brought veteran play producer, SHEILA HAVENS RYLE on board this project to ensure the success of this production.
Kimberly resides in Temecula, CA.
