About this project
Note! I set my funding goal really low to ensure everyone receives their reward, but I actually have a long way to go before I cover my costs.
I'm traveling to Positano, on the Amalfi Coast of Italy, at the end of March for Sirenland, an awesome writing conference. A quick Google Image Search reveals a little about how ridiculously beautiful this place is. I'll use the week to meditate on both the town itself and the nature of travel writing:- Where are the borders of what we consider travel writing?
- Is there a way to travel and write about travel that transcends an obsessive search for the next photo spot or, in reaction to that, the most "authentic" neighborhood?
- How can travel writing be compelling now that images and information about the world are so readily available?
I want to find out. At the end of my trip, I'll compile a book (full color, 7" by 7") of photos, essays, short fiction, and drawings that I hope will contribute in a unique way to our understanding of Positano.
