Enjoy a collection of curiosities unearthing the mysteries of a small town where every story has a unique voice and aesthetic.
Welcome to Fort Hope, Washington. A quaint small town on the East side of the Olympic Peninsula. A popular tourist trap to those looking to get away from it all and a destination for those seeking the paranormal. The murder of an outsider sets the stage for an eclectic cast of characters.
It's my belief that every story has its own voice but also it's own aesthetic. This is a collection of stories told through many different mediums. Every character has an appropriate way for their story to be told. For example, 13 year old Jamie's adventure and vivid imagination is followed through comics. More is revealed about his sister Mary through her journal entries and sketches. Letters between neighbors tell a ghostly tale leaving a lot up to the reader's imagination. The town itself, being one of the most important characters, see's its spotlight in the pages of history books and Wiki articles.
All these puzzle pieces may not seem to fit together at the beginning but as the story progresses you'll find they all form a larger picture. Like any small town everyone knows everyone else. It's all connected. Enjoy piecing together the clues to solve the many mysteries of Fort Hope. Murders, disappearances, ghost sightings, are they all connected? Introducing Fort Hope is the first of ten books in a series.
Where does the money go? $400 is the absolute minimum amount I need to get a decent copy of this book on paper and into your hands. This isn't for profit, it's for the love of making art and sharing it. $400 will print 100 full color, 36 page, comic size copies of Fort Hope and cover the cost of the listed rewards.
If we can raise $500 that would also cover web hosting for a Fort Hope website which I would build myself and update regularly with new parts of the story. Printing, in color especially, is more expensive the less you print. The more people who pre order the book and contribute to this Kickstarter the nicer the book will become as the same cost of printing will produce a higher quality product.
If we can get to $700 all the books will be comfortably wrapped in a hand printed cover, either block print or silkscreen, depending on if I can take the silkscreen classes at Seattle's Vera Project in time for the book to come out. Either way it'll turn each book into something unique and hand crafted.
Raising $1,000 fills the book with inserts. "Greetings from Fort Hope" post cards, stickers, trinkets.
If we reach $2,000 I will send every one of you backers, from $1 to $400 a handwritten thank you note on a really neat post card the second we're funded.
If we reach $3,000 I will try (and fail) to grow a beard. It'll be hilarious, I'll update regularly with photos.
International orders please add ten dollars for shipping.
