We are excited to introduce the Versa Ruler™, the first-ever shape-making ruler! The Versa Ruler enables you to form and lock unlimited, multi-sided shapes– with accurate measurements for every side and angle. Think of a 2D erector set of rulers that you can slide and angle around, laying perfectly flat on any even surface. The user can connect sides to form angles, which scale and skew smoothly–while also providing you the ability to independently lock angles and sides.
It began as a concept for a shape-shifting ruling device, which then became an insanely fun and challenging design project between friends. Our experiment in combining symmetry and utility led to the creation of the Versa Ruler –and the subsequent formation of our company. The idea fueled a fury of new product concepts and now we find ourselves on the cusp of launching our brand, Koala Tools, with the Versa Ruler as our first product.
It's the perfect tool at the perfect time.
With so many of our tactile experiences going digital, our mission is to nurture both creativity and productivity at a visceral level. And as our education becomes more visual, the honing of our aesthetic senses will play an increasingly vital role in how well we learn.
From astronomy to art, shape and proportion have always been at the core of our understanding of the universe around us. That's why the ruler is one of the oldest tools in mankind's history. It's also, up until this point, one of the most unchanged. We believe that this great tool is due for a revolutionary upgrade, so we created the Versa Ruler with features like:

- Interconnectivity of multiple sides and angles
- Alternating US standard and metric units on opposite sides
- Ability to lock angles and sides independently
- Ability to construct unlimited open and close-ended shapes

The Versa Ruler is our first product of what we hope will become a solid, growing company. Our goal is to manufacture and sell them to schools, art & craft stores, educational supplies retailers, museum gift stores, and even hardware stores. The Versa Ruler is designed in a way that interconnects with itself at two different points. You can connect the ruler end-to-end or end-to-angle. This creates a system of infinite combinations since there is no limit to the amount of components that can be connected.
Of course, the more common configurations may be 2 sides for angles, 3 sides for triangles, and 4 sides for rectangles and quadrilaterals. In terms of closed shapes, the actual limit is 8 sides.

Yes. The Versa Ruler was designed to display inches and centimeters on opposite sides. So switching between US standard and metric scales is as simple as flipping over the Versa Ruler assembly. Numbers on one side ascend from left to right, whereas numbers on the other side ascend from right to left. This allows you to build any shape with any number orientation and with any of the two unit measurment systems. This system allows for both left and right-handedness and gives the user option to physically convert between scales in real time.

The product is composed mainly of a high-grade polycarbonate resin that is made in part from post-consumer recycled plastic, and it is completely recyclable.
