I just wanted to say that I'm really stoked about this... I can't wait to get mine! Thanks again for keeping the updates coming!
Updates would be very helpful especially for people that back a large amount of projects and don't have the time to go from project to project reading the comments.
It would be nice if you would post this as an official update. People may not come here very often, and posting an update shows up as an email and on the activity icon.
We've officially been in production for two weeks now. That means that in another two weeks, we should have our first shot samples! We will post pics as soon as they come in.
At this point, everything has gone into production. We can't give any firm dates, but we are expecting that we will have inventory about 3-4 weeks after approving the first articles. Also,
the T-shirts will be done next week and the backpacks the week after. Of course, we will post pics of those as well.
We would really love to see some updates on production progress and shipping dates estimates. Thanks
Hello Lewis,
We have already sent surveys to our $5, $25 and $30 backers. The reason is that we can already send them their rewards, as they do not include actual Versa Rulers.
We wanted to wait until we actually put the order in for the tooling + production before sending surveys to our other backers. Our aim is to include as much information as possible when updating our progress and collecting information from our backers.
Please stay tuned for more updates.
Thanks,
Carlos
Are we closer to getting the surveys? It's been two weeks since your last message.
Hi Alex,
Yes, you can expect to see something in your inbox by next week with regard to information-gathering from our backers.
We are also looking to lock down more specific shipping dates. We will know much more by the end of the first week of March. As soon as we have the information, we will post it in an official update.
Thanks,
Carlos
can we get an update on proposed shipping time frames for US and Canadian backers?
or at least an idea of when the surveys will be sent out?
Hi Arturo,
Thanks for reaching out! We have significantly improved the final design by making the rulers and other components slightly slimmer, which not only uses less material and reduces overall weight, but also improves performance.
We are also finalizing the arrangements with a manufacturer and should have a contract in place by the first week of March. This means that we should have product by our target date of May.
We have been moving restlessly toward our goal of satisfying our Kickstarter rewards and also debuting our product at the NAMTA art materials trade show in Orlando on May 7. Stay tuned for some official updates and photos.
Thanks,
Carlos
Any progress in manufacturing worth sharing with us backers? Thanks
I'm anxious to get my hands on this. If this is as useful as I think it will be, I hope that you will soon have it on the market, so I can buy more rulers. I should have gone for the two set offer!
Yay, you guys can "thank you" me by sending me one set for free… hahaha…
Congrats guys. You do deserve it.
A big THANK YOU to all of our backers and supporters!! We couldn't of done without you!!
Nice big jump of pledges in the last days! Congrats :-)
We can't thank all of you enough!!!
Thank you so much! We 're so humbled right now by what's happened and all of your comments, and support
@Derek Miller - Thanks for backing us! We are thrilled to have reached our goal and are going straight into production. We can't wait to put Versa Rulers into everyone's hands!
@Qwickset - We are honored to be your first Kickstarter project. Thank you for supporting us and for the thoughtful comment. We are excited to bring the Versa Ruler to the world, so any success that comes from it will be the satisfying result of lots of hard work and dedication.
My first Kickstarter...what an amazing design and product. Nice work fellas. You deserve all that comes your way for this one.
Cheers! You deserve the success that awaits.
Thank you for the support and comments conantbh. Your point on the shipping is well-taken. Since we can't change pledges that are already backed, we instead had to create new rewards where the shipping is free.
Thanks again,
-Carlos
Great concept, you are very near and I hope that you'll make it.
For the critics side I'm with Muescha about the shipping price: you should charge what you actually spend, not what other kickstarters use to ask.
Hi Muescha,
Thanks for backing our project. We too wish the Versa Ruler was available when we were students! We created this tool because we believe in the Art of Geometry; and we hope that schools will use it to engage students with fun, hands-on, interactive learning.
Regarding the international shipping price, it seems to be a fairly standard amount –from what I've noticed on other Kickstarter projects. We acknowledge that it is a substantial expense, which is why we created the additional rewards for international backers with free shipping.
Also, regarding updates: Some updates are for existing backers only because the update may deal with some aspect of their pledge. We will make an effort to be more inclusive with our updates going forward.
Thanks for your comments and we appreciate your support.
-Carlos
hi,
i dont know if i need it anyhow, but i just backed your project because i like the idea and like to see it founded. i wish i had this tool while my school time :-)
just my 2 cents:
- i find that the international shipping with 30USD is very very high and do not attract any international backers.
- why some updates (especialy with new pledge options which is also important for not-yet-backers) is only visible to already-backers?
Haha. Thanks, Arnold. I'm sure we deserve that. But good idea. I'll add a summary of the rewards to the FAQ.
Thanks x 1000! We going try our best!
Frank
So with 1st $100 I will also get a "thank you car"? ;) just kidding..
I think it will be better it you put it all in summary in an update or FAQ in project main page. That will describe that 'this' reward will get 'this' with shipping 'this' much. It doesn't too mater to me, now that I've read all your explainations. But not all backers have enough time and/or attention to follow all comments and updates. This will more likely leading to more questions that time consuming to answer or even worst, ended to wrong pledge amounts and when project date reach this will be difficult to handle.
Success and Godspeed.
Thank you, Arnold. The rewards that say [the above] include all preceding rewards except those that say "Not included or combined with any other reward". Unfortunately, we cannot change the descriptions once they are "backed" since kickstarter.com does not allow us to. But in general we are asking international backers to add $20 to there pledge for shipment To Canada and $30 for anywhere else outside the US - unless the reward type says "international backers." If we blundered here, we'll certainly do our best to get all of our backers the expected rewards.
The 1st $100 reward includes a Thank You car, Koala Tools stickers, Koala Tools pencils, a Koala Tools Black Logo T-Shirt, and 1 Versa Ruler set. The 2nd $100 reward includes the same reward bu instead of a Koala Tools black Logo T-shirt you get second Versa Ruler set. The second reward was added to be more appealing as we realized that none of our initial rewards offered more than 1 Versa Ruler set. Also, international shipping fees of $20 to Canada & $30 elsewhere do apply to these rewards.
Thank you, and again, we apologize for the confusion.
Frank
Thank you for your quick respond. But I still not sure the difference of the two $100 reward. Maybe it's because some rewards mention "receive [above]" that suggest same as above it, which content different arrangement. And some reward not mention the shipping. If you can't adjust the reward wording, maybe you can make an update with more clear and complete definitions of rewards. Just my two cent.
Sorry for the confusion Arnold; unfortunately, though, Kickstarter.com doesn't allow us to change language in rewards that are already backed. Let me try to carify what we mean: a set means one packed product. When we say Versa Ruler or Versa Ruler set, we mean a set of 4 rulers and protractors in a package. If the reward is 2 Versa Rulers or 2 Versa Ruler sets, the reward is 2 seperate packages each containing 4 rulers and 4 protractors. The $50 reward contains 1 Versa Ruler set (4 rulers and 4 protractors); the $75 reward includes 2 Versa Rulers sets (2 seperate packages each containing 4 rulers and 4 protractors. Again, we apologize as we certainly could have more accurate descriptive terms. The confusion lies in whether a single ruler and protractor is a Versa Ruler or whether a packaged product containing 4 rulers and 4 protractors is a Versa Ruler. A Versa Ruler as we intend the meaning to be is synonomous with Versa Ruler set and both mean a single package with 4 rulers and 4 protractors. Again, sorry for the confusion.
I'm still confused of will we get in rewards options. You should be more clear of what does it define as "set"?
Hello Everyone,
To clear up any confusion on what a Versa Ruler (set of 4) or Versa Ruler set means: a Versa Ruler, the packaged product, contains a set of 4 rulers and 4 protractors.
Thanks,
Frank
Hi Christian,
Thanks for your pledge and support. It is greatly appreciated. Regarding the shipping, it would be the same as the other rewards. Sorry for not making that clear on the reward.
Thanks again,
Carlos
Hi, how much is international shipping on the 40 dollar pledge level?
Hello Icetigris,
Thank you for the question. Yes, rulers snap into each other end to end, and due to the snap orientation on successively added rulers, metric units markings on one ruler always align with metric units markings on another; the same is true for empirical units markingings. And yes, rulers snap into the protractors, and protractors are slidable on rulers that they are not snaped into and slide smoothly on successively connected rulers. With more than one set of Versa Rulers, the capabilities of the system increases as you have implied: e.g, triangles and squares of all sorts can be created with 24" rulers; e.g, both regular and irregular polygons, such as pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, and octagons can be created with 12" rulers (open shapes of all sorts can be created as well). Protractors and rulers can be selectively added or removed as the user desires.
Thanks,
Frank
Are the protractor joints removable? Is it possible to snap together all the rulers from n sets without the protractors to make a really long ruler?
Hi John,
Thanks for the pledge and great question– The Versa Ruler's contact points on the surface are the smooth, plastic faces of the protractors. The straight edges are actually raised 2.3mm from the paper, making it great for ink pens + markers. Our goal was to get the edge as close as we could to the surface without sacrificing material strength. The result is a smooth and pleasant experience with just about any writing tool and even a cutting knife.
As to whether the Versa Ruler would be compatible with parallel rules in the way that you might want, I'm not sure... but the versa system was designed to function as a parallel rule within itself. By clamping 2 connected vrulers together vertically on any side of a table, you would be able to slide the horizontal rule up, down or angled, and be able to measure distances and angles.
I hope that answers your question. Thanks again for the support!
-Carlos
Thanks
Hi Frank & Carlos,
I was wondering how much clearance there was between the rotating mechanism and the paper, specifically, could this be used with something like a Mayline or Parallel rule for drafting tables? Also, is the straightedge flat on the drawing surface (and if so, is the edge designed for inking) or is it lifted above the surface?
-John
I'm not much of a stickler for rules either (pardon the pun). Adaptability is an often overlooked principle in our education system.
Ha, do i have to put a condom on it if i want to wade through water? Ha and we got extra credit because of the calculator for ingenuity, he was a great laid back teacher, problems never left the class room.
Haheha.. messaging answers through calculators is a sly circumvention of the educational rules of engagment.
I prefer to think of versa ruler as the M-16 that you're holding up over your head during boot camp... which then becomes the trusted friend in the field.
Thanks for sharing.
-Carlos
Ya that is true i know for a while when i was in high school they stopped allowing graphing calculators because we put attachments on/in them to allow them to network/MSG but that's another thing. was only band at the vo-tech school in the engineering class ha ha.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the comment. I can tell you that we are stubbornly dedicated to seeing that this product makes it to the market. Kickstarter would be a great help in getting there faster, but we are pushing forward on other avenues as well.
btw, I would hope that the Versa Ruler would be encouraged in the classroom. Teachers are always looking for new ways to get their students more engaged in lessons and nothing does the job better than a fun and useful hands-on tool.
-Carlos
This can cut drafting time down dramatically and keep accuracy.
If this does not reach its goal i will be surprised but if it does not will it still be released on the market?
also i don't think this would be aloud in a geometry class they might consider it cheating ha ha.
Great Ruler.... wish I had this already!!
